((OOC: LOL! I can think of something else . Would be kinda a shame to have everyone looking at her like "ow... you totally missed the point on what 'defensive' means" ... I can't wait to see what the those 'masters' , with the proper skills ranks, can do... or write ^_^ In role play terms whatever I do just have to be 'lesser' anyway ))

((OOC: Keep in mind, in the case of "defensive," we merely mean non-lethal effects; right up your alley since - as I recall - the Asahina are almost as pacifistic as the stereotypical Phoenix is supposed to be. ;D))

Kenpachi wandered next to the Minor Clansmen that were creating their own area. He muttered a few words of encouragement to a Kitsune that wandered near, and was laughing with a young Tonbo and Usagi. His eyes were looking for the Toturi supporters, but little had arrived. Even with the theoretical peace of the festival aside, there were those that had concerns with coming so deep into Hantei loyal territory.

Shoju registered for 8 events. He left the Void competitions be, knowing that while He could manipulate Maho to come close, it would most assuredly would be his downfall in such a public setting. soon enough. Soon enough I will find what I need to make the connection. Shoju thought. As he registered, He saw a ronin shugenja who didn't look quite right... Shoju would need to keep an eye on him. There was something about him that seemed malicious.
With The Agasha Void Master preparing for the tournament, Shoju began walking the tournament grounds looking for the monkey. He closed his eyes, and whispered to the Air Kami, and He walked off in the right direction. After a few moments, Shoju had wandered over into an area of the tournament where the minor clans had gathered and soon enough had found the monkey standing with his back to him.
Shoju walked up as calmly as possible, and stood to the right and just behind Kenpachi. "Well hello there Little Monkey. It is good to see you again."

Agasha Shodai marked all 10 of the registration scrolls with his chop and turned to look out on the gathered competitors and spectators from the raised dias. It was from this spot that he noticed Toku Kenpachi wandering about where the other minor clan samurai were gathered.
The Void Master sighed; mostly to himself. He had not spoken to Kenpachi since that night the man had insulted Mitsouko by the Three Sides River in order to get her to set her concerns for Toku Sanjuro aside so she could do what would need to be done. Shodai had seen him briefly when the party in Ryoko Owari Toshi had broken up, but Agasha was certain that the older Toku had neither spotted him nor recognized him... Not that it would be surprising since two major things had changed since that night.
First, Shodai had lost the white mempo of "Asaka Jinjutsu" - one of the alternate names the Agasha had used when he wanted to do something without people getting caught up in the stories of the Void Master's reputation - during the battle with the crazed Isawa Isshin and defeating the Isshin-no-Oni that had attacked Toku Sanjuro. Second, when Isshin had torn a rift through the Void - which the insane young shugenja was intending to connect to Jigoku, but Agasha had managed to redirect to Meido - Shodai had been forced to stay at the point of detonation to contain the rift. Since that time, all of the Void Master's hair had turned supernaturally white, save for a single lock of black over his gray left eye.
Thanks to the kharmic bond of Kakita Mitsouko's and Agasha Shodai's prior incarnations - Seppun Saimei and Miya Shokujin - the Kakita Family Daimyo and the Void Master had been fated to marry in this life to make up for the opportunity that had been stolen from them in their previous one; despite Toku Hirotomo's, Fuzake Chiyuki's and Toku Kenpachi's efforts to secure a union between the Monkey and the Crane.
The Void Master sighed again as he worked his way over to Kenpachi; might as well face the man now and get it over with. "It's been a while, Kenpachi-san."[/b]

Sprinkles signed up for 10 events. He had prepared a long time for this. If everything went according to plan then this would be the beginning of his mission to reshape the Empire.

Kenpachi went pure white as he heard a voice behind him. Shock was replaced with pure fury as he turned. That voice. He knew that voice. A ronin stood behind him, wearing a mempo, but the eyes were all he needed. Damn the Phoenix and their rules about no violence. Kenpachi gave the man a tight, feral smile. "Ronin-san, you have me at a disadvantage. I forgot the puppy.
Kenpachi's eyes looked around. Obviously, the Phoenix and the Crab were getting lax if someone could waltz from the Shadowlands deep into the Empire. He would send a letter to the Crab Champion informing him of this. It would take too long to draw his weapon, and he could not dishonor his clan. His son was in charge now. He could get what information he needed from the ronin, perhaps even get a weakness. He still had Bayushi-san's death to settle with him, let alone his wife's.
When Shodai walked up and greeted him, Kenpachi was cursing his luck. The two people he had no desire to see had boxed him in. He wondered how the so called Spider would do in Hantei's court, he knew in Toturi's there had been a great outcry, he himself spent three very long hours declaring the Spider, while honorable, had no right to demand status as anything, let alone a clan. They were ronin, and while their deeds could eventually elevate them, they must first perform said deeds. Rewards were not given for potential.
Agasha Shodai was a particular thorn in his side. He had no reason to dislike the man on a personal level, but his hard work was made useless when his marriage to Mitsouko was made almost certain. He wondered what would have happened if Sanjuro had not been lost to the river. Even knowing he was alive, they walked over him. Kenpachi would never forget that slight.
"Agasha-sama, how wonderful to see you again. Kenpachi said as he bowed politely. His mind was working quickly. Knowledge would need to be gained for his son. Perhaps an afternoon of distaste would help his son more than a year of happiness.

Shoju smiled as Shodai walked up. what perfect timing. now the monkey is almost assured not to draw on him shoju thought.
"It has been far too long Toku-san. I fear that much tragedy has befallen both of us since last we met. Tell me Toku-san. Have the awful crimes been solved? Shoju's voice sounded sincere, and his eyes held the sincerity.

"Yes, Oronkohiro-san. At least for the most part." Kenpachi said maintaining a tight grip on his emotions. "I found the man responsible, but I fear that he was merely a weapon. I still intend to find that which wielded him. Kenpachi's usual banter was slowly drifting away from him. The ronin actually seemed as though he cared. That was unusual to say the least. Kenpachi reminded himself that sincerity was a courtier's trick that even he was able to become adept at. Still, the eyes tended not to lie. What was the game? Surely, rubbing an old wound in public would serve little use.

Shoju smiled. He had forgotten how long it had been. "The name Oronkohiro as been lost to the winds Toku-san. My lord felt that I should have a new name, a more appropriate name, for my new position. You may call me Chuda Shoju now, Toku-san. Shoju rubbed his chin, he had heard that the man responsible for the death of the Toku's family had been a bloodspeaker. A madman. "Toku-san, it is unfortunate that you were unable to find the mastermind of the attack. There are those in the Empire with an affinity for the arts which I have mastered, yet not the respect for them as an art. They see it as a tool to gain power. They see it as a stepping stone, and abuse it. Shoju's eyes grew bitter. "Those who soil the art by abusing it deserve a fate worse than death.
Shoju looked at the Monkey, and his eyes widened, and a grin crossed his face. "Tell me Little Monkey, do you still have your Ono?"

Art? What madness was this? Taint, and by extension Maho was a blasphemy, a plague, it was many things, but art was not one of them. Still, this new Chuda, thought it was so. Chuda...Kenpachi vaguely remembered reading that name, but he could not quite remember where. He was never one for the scholarly life.
Kenpachi smirked back at the ronin, or was he ronin now that he mentioned a lord. "Indeed I still have it, Chuda-san. Though it remains with the rest of my equipment at the bottom of the shrine. It would be quite garish to arrive at a festival with anything save my daisho. One may think it to be ready for something else than a delightful competition. Kenpachi gave an idle look to the no-dachi.

"I see my comments rolling around in your head Toku-san. They have perplexed you. There are many layers to things, as I'm sure you are becoming aware. Shoju smiled and looked towards the sky. If you ever wish to find the one who orchestrated the attack, Find me away from this tournament, and bring your Ono with you Toku-san.
Shoju looked back at the monkey. It is truly good to see you well. I hope you stick around for the competition. I'm sure it will be wildly entertaining.

Kenpachi nodded his head as the Chuda spoke. He knew something? Kenpachi licked his lips. It was a trap most likely. What if he did know who masterminded the plot? Was it to kill his wife? Him? Perhaps even Hirotomo was the target, which seemed unlikely. He was grateful to have Rinko soon to become his son's wife. A daughter with a sword arm was far more valuable than any other ability during these times. Perhaps the Ronin did not seek his death. Or at least not yet. It was too good an opportunity to let slip through his fingers. His Dragon companions would likely excuse him for a few moments later. He could not ignore this.

Kiso watched the interactions of those he came to learn as Chuda Sprinkles and Chuda Shoju. The gaijin had him more then curious from the interaction with Hiromitsu. But Shoju.....he cursed inwardly that he finally met this menace during a peace-bonding event. If it wasn't for his strict desire to follow tradition, he would have gladly performed a sacrificial spell to remove the blight from the world.
At worst, he now had a face....a mask anyway... to go along with the name... and he would be looking for it at Toshi Ranbo when the battles began.
Having not spent a terrible amount of time in courtly endeavors of late, almost everyone gathered here was very much a stranger, and not a one seemed worthy of his attention save the Monkey Champion. It was odd to see him here, but his curiosity must have got the better of him. (couldn't resist! =D )
He quickly registered for the events, hoping the contest would begin soon. There was still much work to be done, and he wanted to show the power of the Scorpion before negotiations opened to the two emperors. Such a display was sure to reward his clan when the news traveled of his victory. (Oh how wrong he was with "victory")
