With long strides, Hiromitsu approached Shoju Chuda and nodded once came close. He examined the No-Dachi now firmly secure in the stone and spoke in a low tone:
-Are we wanting to customize the weapon with rust marks? This blade, even when touched with the fingers, must be cleaned up immediately with the required materials. I brought in my backpack Nuguigami, Wiping cloth, Choji Oil, Oiling Cloth and a Uchiko Ball. Think you'll need later? But I'm sure this is known.
The warrior with visible pain in the heart as he looks the weapon there, stuck.
-...I have one as well at home...

It didn't take very long for the head monk of the Reihaido sano Ki-Rin to locate Void Master Agasha Shodai and share with him the revelation that two of the Chuda line had made an open appearance and that the one known as Chuda Shoju had led him into granting them permission to compete before revealing their identity.
The Void Master nodded. Shoju's silver tongue was certainly gifted in the subtle manipulation of those whom he engaged in conversation. When Shodai and his bride-to-be Mitsouko had been in Ryoko Owari Toshi on their way to Kyuden Miya, Bayushi Senshi, the Scorpion Clan champion, had declared Chuda Shoju to be dead, but as Shodai had suspected, the Lord of Secrets had lacked the means of permanently destroying the Khadi.
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention Asako Musho. I shall see to it that your promises - even though they were extracted from you through chicanery - are fulfilled."[/b]
Agasha Shodai eased his way through the gathered crowd and arrived by the registration table in time to see a man wearing dark robes and a Scorpion-like mask summon an Earth spirit to seal his blade of choice - a properly peace-bonded No-Dachi - in such a way that it could not be drawn.
The Void Master encanted an Earth spell in the silence of his mind thanks to a Void spell that allowed the kami to hear his prayers with the speed of a thought. The same earth spirit that had sealed Shoju's weapon sent a probing thought to detect any metal objects carried by either Chuda. It quickly responded through the Void that they carried no metal of sufficient size to be a concealed weapon. A young Asahina shugenja was clearly dismayed by the brewing confrontation, so Shodai made no open admission that he knew the Khadi to be speaking truthfully.
Shodai walked over to the display. A probing thought through the Void revealed that the weapon was a nemuranai that was decidedly less than socially acceptable, but neither it nor the saya carried any traces of Taint. He gestured to the Asahina. "The young lady has a point. We are shugenja; none of use are ever truly unarmed as long as the kami are by our side."[/b]
Agasha took the saya in his right hand, placing a marker on it visible only to those whom could touch the magic of the Void. The mark would tell Shodai where the weapon was at all times for the next week or two and would detect so much as a wisp of Taint. The shugenja's bi-color gaze looked at the rock and he bid the earth kami return to its rest. The rock melted away, leaving Shodai holding the weapon as a breeze from the mountains caused his loose shoulder-length white hair with its black lock to sway.
The Void Master held out the weapon to Chuda Shoju. "Keep your weapon, Chuda-san... The gesture is admirable, but we shall take you at your word that you come in peace for this competition. We shall extend what trust we can for as long as you continue to fulfill your oath. You have the word of the Elemental Council that you and your clan brother may participate and will be permitted to depart our lands without interferance by any agency subject to the authority of the Council."[/b]

OOC: I do not want to upset anyone. I'm leaving the festival to not crash with the interpretation of my character, do not worry about me.
Any questions you may have can be sent by PM if needed. Much that you can totally ignore his presence this far, so no need to worry about a giant trap that he would do! : P
Maybe I play in a very different style, or perhaps the dynamics of the forum, or the impunity that comes from immortality, or the inability to resolve conflicts.
Anyway, thanks for listening.

Toku Kenpachi strode the last few steps. He'd never attended this festival, and would of course not be participating, but individual allies perhaps could be found. His son had stuck to the story of the Monkey's blissful ignorance. If a war was not happening, who really cared about the Minor Clans?
His daisho was peacebonded by the silk he won in the sadane match what felt like an eternity ago. There was a influx of Hantei supporters, that was not exactly surprising. There were also a few ronin in black. Spider Clan or some such. Kenpachi had heard that they were well known for helping the commoners, and that met with his approval, but this almost insane demand to be seen as a Clan was, audacious at the very least, suicidal at worst.
Kenpachi saw few familiar faces, he was bushi, and most of his contacts were with bushi. The only few shugenja he knew personally were either from his own clan, or met during his time with the Jade Magistrates. He was not very hopeful he would find those of like mind here, his personal neutrality made him safe enough with the Dragon, and their choice of support had greatly affected Yuushahime. She was growing darker, a far cry from the maiden that hailed him the winner during Winter Court. The war would change many.

Shoju bowed and took his weapon back from the Phoenix. "Himitsu no Akumu hasn't left my side since I finished forging her. I will admit my gesture had me a little anxious." Shoju reaffirmed the Peace Bond, and then placed the hefty weapon upon his back. "I am Chuda Shoju, Shireikan of the Forces of the Spider at Toshi Ranbo. I am here in a hope to further prove the Spider mean no ill towards the empire, despite our obviously checkered past." Shoju looked across the landscape of the tournament. He saw the little monkey. oh how delicious Shoju thought. He made a mental note to make sure to welcome the monkey later on.
"Tell me, whom do I have the privelege of speaking with?"

"I am Agasha Shodai; Voice of the Phoenix Clan's Elemental Council and Void Master."[/b] The shugenja replied as he released his hold on the no-dachi; briefly curious what secret of the devils the blade's name referred to, but decided he was probably happier not knowing. "And I am rather familiar with who you are, Chuda Shoju, but please try to keep the prohibition on discussing politics during the Festival in mind, hmm? We are here to share knowledge and facts with one another, not opinions; save those for Winter Court."[/b]

Shoju bows low to Shodai. "It is an honor to meet you Agasha Shodai-san. I feel myself at a disadvantage considering you know so much about me, and I know so very little about you. Shoju looked at the sky, and back the master of the Void. "I promise my politics will not be spoken of past that. I merely mean that by being here, in attendance, in accordance with the rules of the tournament, maybe people will no longer need to offer me a promise of civility." Shoju looked over the Void master, the blade had not decided if he was enemy or not yet. "Tell me Shodai-san, how have you come to know so much about me? Surely the Elemental Council has more important things to discuss than a shugenja of such little import as myself.... "

"I was in Toshi Ranbo within hours of the announcement that Hantei the 40th wished all those who supported him as the Son of Heaven to swear renewed fealty to him, so I was aware of the arrival of your forces as it was happening. As for discussing you..."[/b]
A slight tightness around his eyes betrayed the emotion that he kept out of his voice through sheer force of will as thought of his fallen friend Tadaka; now a monk seeking refinement of his unusual balance of purity and corruption.
"You are correct in that the Council has better things to do, though the letter you sent us did spark a brief discussion. But you'd be surprised what you can learn when you talk to the right people - like my old friend and predecessor, Tadaka, or Bayushi Senshi, for example - in addition to what you can glean from the Void..."[/b]

"Tadaka was your PREDECESSOR!? Shoju's shock wasn't large enough to cause a scene, but the genuineness of it could catch one off guard. "Tadaka is a topic that I would love to speak with someone about. He was involved... in a sad altercation in my home, and his actions left me wondering where his allegiances lied. To say I knew he was the Master of the Void would be a lie." Shoju turned and walked a few steps away from Shodai.
"Bayushi Senshi though... I fear we may be doomed to an existence akin to the one shared by the madman Yori and Karasu until one of us no longer walks the same realm as the other. Shoju turned back to Shodai. "I'm sure that Senshi painted you a fabulously gruesome and unflattering image of me. I promise you, It is an incomplete image.
Shoju removed the mempo, showing a square jaw that looked more crab than scorpion in origin, smiled. Will I have the opportunity to compete against you in this tournament?

Agasha Shodai nodded. "Indeed you will."[/b] He looked around the gathered competitors, raising his voice so that all could hear. "As will all of those gathered here for I intend to enter each of the 10 competitions... Not for the sake of winning, but so that I might learn what my brothers and sisters of the shugenja class are capable of in a friendly competition of skill and ability."
"For those of you whom manage to impress me with your performances, I personally offer a prize to all competitors in the Festival in addition to the grand prize offered by the Shrine... In the spirit of the Festival of the White Orchid, the celebration of sharing knowledge - I will grant a personal favor - as the Void Master - in the form of information."[/b] He paused to ensure all were listening. "Specifically, I will provide you the answer to any one question of any topic that may exist within the vast knowledge bank of the Phoenix Clan libraries that you might be curious about."[/b]
He gave a slight smile. "Within reason, of course; don't expect that I will give away anything that my Clan is unwilling to share. If you are unsure if the question you ask to be unreasonable, I will let you know permit you to ask a different question instead. I make no guarantees you will like the answer, but I will swear on my personal honor that the answer with be the absolute truth."[/b]
"Registration for participants is now open!"[/b] One of the lesser monks at the registration table announced. "Please present your personal seals to mark the scrolls of each competition you wish to enter."[/b]
Shodai reached into his monk-like robes - he had elected to not to wear his robes of office for the competition - and extracted a chop made of pure Mori Isawa silver that had been mined at the beginning of the empire for the first Void Master and enchanted to so the mon of office and the current master's name would always appear when used. He looked around, waiting to see who would register for which competition.

Registers once only, for defensive air spells. Categories were kinda limiting for what she had in mind. How is a defensive spell supposed to look beautiful? Well, hopefully someone would show ...

((OOC: Remember, you are not necessarily limited to just the spells in the L5R books or their functions. For example, that Air spell deflect arrows could be used artistically by using colored sand you throw into it to swirl in a pattern that you command.
The areas of "judging" would be things like: Complexity of the spells (i.e. Mastery Level + Raises,) Execution (did you not flub it, did you throw in some stylish extras for the sake of the performance, etc.,) Display (what you actually do with the spell,) and the "Unexpected" factor (do you manipulate an offensive spell into being defensive, do you layer multiple spells into a larger demonstration, do you cross elements, etc.)
Remember, it's all in the roleplay, we aren't worrying about dice. Let your imagination run wild... Within reason. ;D))

((OOC: still, categories are limiting for what she had in mind as it doesn't fit in defensive or "ofensive" , but nevermind ... there is totally not real need for being "impressive" from where she is))
