Shinobu looked down shyly from the smile Shoju gave. The Tortoise was hard to read. All of the weakness and demure nature were on the fine line of utter sincerity and opportunistic acting to give a view. The hatamoto moved over to a set of drawers and took out some sheets of paper. They were placed upon the table along with a small pouch of ink, one that wouldn't slide around too much.
The papers read fairly basic. Even going over the minutia, the terms were mostly simple deals. The Tortoise promised open ports and shipping for the Snake, as well as routing trade through Snake lands. Also promised were some peasants to help work the Snake lands, to help get them on their feet. In turn, the Snake were to let the Kasuga family conduct trade as it saw fit. Any non-Tortoise smuggling through Snake lands would be reported to the Tortoise first, not the Imperial Magistrates. As well, any nemurani or artifacts found within the Snake's home, be that Otosan Uchi or the Dragon Heart Plains, would be given to the Kasuga as well.
The only truly strange part of the contract was the end. It stated that Shoju agreed to not speak of any of the deal, under the rules of the Taihan. Shinobu's name was signed "Kasuga Shinobu, Tortoise clan under daimyo, Taihan North Wind".
"I trust the contract meets your wishes Shoju-san?"

Shoju looked over the contract. He was fairly certain that all of it was in order, and that the few parts that made him wonder were best left for conversational discovery, than confrontational discovery. Yes, Kasuga-san. I believe that it is all in order. And might I add, that I look forward to doing business with you and your clan in the future. A healthy amount of interaction with the Tortoise, and our newly found allies the Monkey should only serve to bolster our claims of a changed nature.
Shoju smiled. Everything was coming together.

Shinobu seemed the sort to rarely be surprised, but an eyebrow was raised at the mention of the Monkey. No comment was returned however, and Shinobu took the contract, got the ink set and rolled it up. "I wish only the best for you then Shoju-san. As soon as we reach the ports of Otosan Uchi, it will be up to you to discover your own path. The Tortoise will assist with whatever we can once that decision is reached of course, but I can not guide you more than that."
"We should be reaching the north in a few weeks. Please, make use of the ship as you will. My quarters are always open to you as well."

[ooc] Going to give people a day or two to see if they have more that they want to add. If by say.... Sunday afternoon (eastern standard time) No one has added anything, I will make the final post in the thread for myself, wrapping up the journey, fast forwarding and talking about Otosan Uchi, and preparing to start the next RP, which will have DIRE consequences for people, and maybe a gift for the tortoise [/ooc]

The time on the boat passed uneventfully enough. Morale was good, and the Snake were anxious as they were so close to freedom they could taste it. the closer Otosan Uchi's ruins became, the better morale seemed to get.
Shoju stayed reclusive throughout the voyage. He could be seen coming and going, most assuming he was caring for The woman and child. For a champion, even self proclaimed and of such a small clan, the number of servants employed by Shoju was small. He seemed to prefer to be as involved as possible in things. Bonfei and Unong tried their best to make sure that day to day matters among the Snake were taken care of, allowing Shoju the time he needed, And Shoju was eternally grateful to the men for their service.
As they approached the bay, and Otosan Uchi, all had agreed that it would be best to put ashore under the cover of night. While the ruins were fairly deserted anymore, It would be curious to see so many ships during the day unloading into the ruined Imperial City.
It took several nights to unload all the Snake into Otosan Uchi. They only ever moved passengers at night, and after a few days, Everyone was unloaded. Shoju and the Kasuga had one last conversation, and he was assured that the peasants would be arriving soon. Shoju looked around the ruins. They were indeed ruins, and they were deserted, but not nearly as much as Shoju had hoped. Maybe, with some time, The Snake would be able to rebuild the city, make it whole again. For now, they would focus on the East side of the city, and the farmland near it. They could easily turn this into a small base of operations while the plans for the Dragon's Heart Plain came together.
A few days later, and the Snake had at least salvaged living quarters for a good number of people, and were beginning to construct more. Shoju was inside the former Sake House turned "court" going over the reports that the Snake scouts had begun to put together. Toshi Ranbo had fallen. Permission City had been captured by the Hantei. The Dragon Army was currently engaged in an assault against the Castle of the Swift Sword in Northern Lion Lands. And there, one of the last reports, was the kicker.
The Phoenix and Ox had made an arrangement for his land. The Phoenix now held Shiro Chuda, and the Ox were maintaining the plains. Shoju wondered what had happened to Khamul and his Order of Sohei. Shoju wondered if they had known he was looking to claim his old lands, or if this was just another roadblock for him.
Shoju sighed as he slumped back at the desk, holding the scouting reports in his hands. He knew that his small clan couldn't take those lands by force. But, he knew that it was his birthright as well. Somehow, The Tamihei would have their lands back.
Whether by force, or by words. Shoju would not rest until he had restored his clan to its rightful place.
