Taiyo sat quietly while sipping his tea. He truly treasured moments like these, when nothing was asked of him and his duties seemed far away. His companions showed their wisdom in recognizing the fleeting moments, that when strung together paint the picture of your life. And what a strange set of companions they were. The champion of a minor, yet prestigious clan, and a learned shugenja, yet prisoner or war.
The world had been turned on its head by recent events, and someone would have to set it right.[/b] Even as the thought came to him, he realized that the moment of peace had passed, and a new one was upon them.
The tea is very much to my liking, although it stirs thoughts of what we've left behind outside the tent. I am curious, how do the two of you see this ending? And I am not merely refering to the siege of Toshi Ranbo, but more to the turmoil that has engulfed the empire? It strikes me that the three of us may have very different experiences to draw upon when considering such a thing, and I find that my thoughts turn more and more to what happens to us all when this moment passes.

The shugenja was quiet for a long moment, sipping at her tea thoughtfully.
"Peacefully and without too much loss of life, Akodo-sama," she finally said at last. "Fighting gets us nothing but destroyed lives and bitter enemies."

"I think it will end with all of us coming together." Hirotomo said sipping his tea. "I mean we've faced troubles before, right? We've fought each other countless times, think of the Four Winds era. Then we stopped fighting. Either Hantei-dono, or Toturi-dono will come out ahead, and then we'll all go back to what we used to do. Neither one will be foolhardy enough to flat out come against the clans that fought against them, it would only hurt the Empire. We all need each other, even if sometimes it does not seem like it. I would like it to end with the heavens themselves dictating our course of actions. I think it's strange that this was even allowed to happen. If we are truly violating the Mandate of Heaven, why are we not all defeated? Heaven dictates that we have one station, and to go against that is blasphemy. Yet they remain silent during this? Why? I can only think that the heavens don't care because even if one man says he's a Hantei, we lost our true divine leaders. Then again, I'm just musing."
Hirotomo had much to think about after he almost died. Looking into theology only made him have more questions. No answers for the heavens. He just supposed they no longer gave a damn about humanity.

Hirotomo's reply brought her out of her reverie over the teacup. Kaida glanced up at the man, surprise and a little bit of shock lifting her brows up quizzically. She held her tongue for a moment, her expression settling into a faint frown.
"You believe the Heavens have left us, Toku-sama?" Her soft, musical voice was even softer, almost as if it pained her to say such a thing.

Either they've left us, and we are now experiencing the resulting chaos, or they are with us, and we are experiencing a painful course correction. Either way, we must press on and make the best of things. Although I must admit, this is not my area of expertise Taiyo smiled, showing his enjoyment of the conversation.
However, my duties can wait no longer. Thank you for the tea, and the good company. I will seek you out again when time permits. With that, Taiyo stood, bowed, and left the tent.

Kaida bowed politely as Taiyo made his exit, still frowning slightly.
"May the Fortunes bless your path, Akodo-sama."

"Not abandoned, Isawa-san, just letting us deal with our own matters. I think that they will right the course soon enough. After all the Sun and Moon were once mortal, I don't think that they would ever truely abandon us."

Kaida sipped her tea in silence, mulling this over.
"But you believe they should be more active?"

"Consistent, maybe. I'm a simple man, born from simple men though." Hirotomo said rubbing the back of his head. "I'm afraid that as a bushi, I've allowed my sense of theology to atrophy in my training. I've only begun to look in depth the words of the Tao. The fact that the Seven Thunders defeated the Lost Kami, and not any of the Kami themselves, or any heavenly power, leads credence to some of my wilder ideas. Perhaps it is a curse to live in interesting times."

"Perhaps, Toku-sama." Kaida fell quiet for a moment, studying the Champion thoughtfully. "When this business is sorted out, I'd like to invite you to Phoenix lands. Perhaps you will be able to find answers to some of your questions there?"

"I think that would be very nice." Hirotomo said with a small smile. "I've heard wondrous praise about your lands, and I've never had the opportunity to travel there myself. I think if I could find answers, it would be there."

Kaida returned the smile.
"And if not, perhaps you'll find a clue as to where you should look?"
