(( OOC: I'm taking over I really hate to have things delayed Don't know who these archers belonged too, but they are now mine, MWHAHAHA... well, whoever is the owner just let me know and you can have them back. Most Crane players already noticed I just can't leave people waiting too long. Please, let me know if something is wrong about the positions. I went back and read all the thread but it was not clear to me, not sure it there was any PM about it. Just trying to help ^_- let me know if anything is needed.))Kakita Norai was pissed of, how can the Lion simply ignore him? These people have no manners anymore. But he could understand why his foe was avoiding Iaijutsu duel. That's ok, he was proud enough to play the Lion's game. It was a narrow street where the Lion met the Crane, wooden houses by both sides, filled with paper lanters and shojis screens. People were screaming in distance, some heimins were joning the fight while other were running. And this narrow street is getting slight warmer. Norai goes back to his archers with swift steps, facing Homura once more, his voice sounds loud : ARROW!!!The sound of men moving is amazingly cordinated, and in not even a second all his unit is reorganized. Norai is now the 'point' of his arrow formation, ready to draw his blade. Behind him the lines of men. One, then two, then three, a perfect triangle... until the last line blocks the whole street, side by side, wall to wall. It was clearly a suicidal move, but he was hoping to slow the Lion... at least until the fire reaches them all. Men! Ready your arrows! The archers search their quiver. They are not full of ammo any more, some may not even have 3 shoots remaining. Besides, war wasn't gentle to them, they are tired and some have visible bandages. Now the warming, the heat around was making sense... the fire was already crackling, the ones giving it some attention would be able to hear it, on the back street may be.

Norai bent over, living room for the arrows to fly above his head and also gave immediate orders.
SHOOT!!!
The archers shoot immediatly, not the trational shot in a parabolic trajetory. The Lion was too close for it. They shot straight ahead, and having the foes to run to their arrows only makes then even more dangerous. Suddenly the Cranes is behind a short wall of arrows.
It may not be enough to hurt those in heavy armor easily, but war horses are not fit to enclosed spaces as this narrow street, if if they could hurt their hoofs and leg and make them fall the Lion charge (that sounds so D&Dish) would not be so efficient.
Norai quickly ordered them to reload, may they could have one more shot before a melee combat.

The retinue had proceeded for hours beneath the bowels of the Imperial Palace, everyone was tired and Naetaru had started to feel his legs burning. It was a strenuous activity, running for your life. All of them had to thank Asahina Yukihime for nurturing their muscles to run a bit more. During that time Naetaru had managed to exchange a couple of words with the Emperor Hantei. He didn't wish to tire him much and more had to be said later. To his amazement however, the Emperor didn't allow a single display of improper emotion, holding a stoic facade among his servants. Moments later, the Seppun captain exclaimed! We reach the end, please proceed quickly! The captain of the Hidden Guard held the Emperor steady as if channeling the nurturing energy of the kamis in the Son of Heavens body. Naetaru saw a big opening ahead, the end of the tunnel, a fugitive's destination. For a moment he could picture the remaining forces of the Crane battling to secure the areas of control on the outskirts of the city. And then he felt nostalgia...war proved a costly enterprise for everyone...
((OOC: Guys, I figure that this would be the end of the "escorting the Emperor" scene. Intentionally I didn't describe the exit, the surroundings or the immediate events that unfolded in case Jay enriches it with further actions in game. So I propose that we restrict this part of the scene only in descriptions and flavorful character development.))

((OOC: Sorry Doji-sama, but I do have to post. I waited long enough already))
Yuuka was done evacuating the infirmary and some tired shugenja. She ordered her fellows, Sayuri-san, Shinta-san, Kenichi-san, Kuroto-san to follow with them back to Crane lands.
Yuuka stared the capital for a while. Another capital falling, does it looks the same as happened in Otosan Uchi? Her history knowledge wasn't good enough to grant her a answer, but was good enough for her to sure she was staring at history happening right now... and thinking about history...
GO! We meet later in Tsuma. Retreat, go!!!
She runned back to the city quickly leaving her friends, and their questions, behind.
Just a lonely bushi, she wasn´t exactly what anyone is looking for right now. It wasn't hard to find her way to the palace, and to one of it's many entrances. She knew she would find the Crane inside. The last ones willing to defend their word.
A few boxes besides what was once a fishmonger store. Heimin on the go all over the streets. Cloth lines on the way. Yuuka easily climb those boxes reaching the roofs. No time for the awesome view of a whole neighbourhood in flames. She runs.
Yuuka found her way through the Palace corridors. She runs. The first thing to make her stop is the view of the Throne´s Room doors, completly opened. No one besides it to guard it or make anouncements. For a moment her blood freezes wishing not to find a carnage inside.
Before any other thought she goes through those doors, fast, running once more. Her steps brings her into a magestic place, empty if wasn't for...
WHAT?!?! Someone on the back of the room... someone on the... BY THE HEAVENS >.< What in jigoku is the Crane doing? They... they... they took everyone out and forgot the Emperor?!?!
That couldn't be happening, Yuuka couldn't believe her eyes... EYES! What lack of manners. Yuuka lowered her eyes hidding her surprise... she was about to ask what was he doing here? Sinking with Rokugan´s ship? What a... Mantis like decision >.o It couldn't be
Her thoughts were surprising, upon such a surprising scene:
Now... how can I take him out on my own? What if he doesn't want to come. Oh fortunes, if Crane courtiers couldn't convince him to leave... how can I do so?
Well...may be if I hit him really hard... but not enough to kill...when he get back to conscience it is going to be the worst part of my life. But I have to do it! I´ll knock him out and take him out.
Yuuka runs towards the Emperor figure in the throne.
((OOC: edited to fix spelling ... argh))

Throughout the course of history, certain individuals have stood out as being completely freaking awesome.
Whether it's cleaving monsters' faces in half with a naginata in Shadowlands, defending a makeshift fortress from a sea of brain-devouring zombies or defending Kayu Wall against an unstoppable sea of charging soldiers; people have always been fascinated with badass stories of one man, by himself, taking on a endless waves of assailants, refusing to back down in the face of insurmountable odds, dying with his fingers still clutching his weapons and leaving behind a smoldering, heaping pile of severed limbs, carnage and dead enemies. These are badass one-man last stands.
This was what Hiromitsu wanted. His ending. But he waited... ...and he waited... and waited... and waited a little more for the lion. If his last mission was about buying time for the emperor's escape he was doing a marvellous job.-Maybe the Lion is lost in the corridors, is quite confusing really. He waited a little more. Slept a little and woke up with his own snoring. A tiny bit of drool could be seen in his fine kimono. He finally woke up fully when he hearded the Yuuka's footsteps. His look was fierce, his face majestic and his thoughts pure and clear: -What? they are here now? Of all time in the earth they chose to come right now? Now I want to go to the bathroom. I guess I will have to hold. Dammit, I wanted to meet my final hour with some dignity, and not wanting to pee.He looked at her when she came at him and tried not to look as surprised as the unaware guy who went out with a transvestite. He has an ice cold determination, with steel nerves and focus, no one would ever notice his shock: -WTF?! Daidoji Yuuka-san? What in Jigoku are you doing here? C'mon, I can't have this amount of bad kharma!!

‘Good timing. Their quite skilled.’ Cranes swiftly changed the formation. Despite wounds and tiredness they were accurate and disciplined. ‘That Norai-san idea looks interesting.’
They aim too low. Most arrows doesn’t look like designed to kill people. Two choices. Stay and take the arrows. Protect the rest. Or flee to the side. Will take some of them, but less. Higher survival chances. More damage to people. Delayed attack. More shots. More wounded.
Homura was sure Lions would win. She didn’t think loss was even possible. As always. Even when outnumbered she always fought to win and believed it is possible.
No time to think. There is nothing to think about. ‘Not I[/b] but [/i]We[/b], right?’[/i]
She heard Norai screaming order (protect head) and swishes of flying arrows. She rose her hands to shield head and felt arrows penetrating her body.

He was first through the Western gate, his Lion army had achieved that which most had thought impossible. Now Keisuke was in the Palace, there was no place for the Hantei to hide now.
A thousand curses on that Kakita Shinji, he alone had slain the other six samurai with him. That one Crane had delayed them far to long, Keisuke was on his own. He had come across a few Seppun guardsmen but they were no real threat not like that damn Kakita Shinji. Curse him all the way to Jigoku.
By the Kami one would think that with all the times he had visited the palace, he would have been able to make to the throne room faster. But then there it was at the end of a long hallway one of the side entrances to the throne room. Rushing the door Keisuke could hear a commotion inside, this had to be it he had found the Hantei.
Keisuke, burst through the door like a hurricane ripping the door from its hinges. With a mighty roar he yelled, Lord Emperor of Rokugan, I bring....[/b] you word from your brother....[/color]
His mind began racing what in heavans name was he seeing here?

(OOC Note: My Daidogi PC died to protect the Emperor's retreat, and I wanted to have one last hurrah.)
Akodo Keisuke's amazement lasted only so long, as his battle sharpened senses caught a flicker of movement from his side. A bisento blade carved a chunk of jade from the Emperor's door frame, and snapped back to a striking position in the blink of an eye.
"You do not belong here, Lion. Your presence profanes this room. Leave, or die."
The speaker was wearing dark blue armor, heavy and ancient. His bisento was notched and stained from heavy use. "I, Daidoji Tagekatsu, will be your end." The Crane bushi seemed weary from the seige, but Akodo-san could see the Daidoji would die before changed his mind, and that he was skilled with the heavy polearm he wielded.

Yuuka was halfway to the throne, in the middle of the room when...
Wait?! What?! How does Hantei-sama knows my name?
Hummm... his voice sounds quite familiar too...
She hold her move a little longer, clenched fists, like she learned with the monks.
Now she could notice the Lion entering the room. He have something to say... or... had something to say? That was bad, a quick look would reveal he was a little more than the average Lion bushi. Or... may be too much more.
No even a second behind another Daidoji emerges, she never looked back before, and now she was able to notice the Daidoji by the door.
Well... I better make a new plan nowthat I'm being watched >.o I won't punch the empror with witnesses around.
Emperor?!
Yuuka turned once more to the man at the Throne, now glancing at him with more attention while displaying a deep respectful bow, yet kinda briefly as there was foes nearby.
She turned to the Lion and the Daidoji behind him, and also briefly bowed, clearly to the Daidoji.
Daidoji-sama - she stood still, like waiting for instructions.

"Daidogi-san! Get the 'Hantei' out of here. And make sure that everyone sees him when you do!" And with that, Tagekatsu's bisento sweeps low, seeking to knock the Akodo from his feet.

Homura faltered back. Blows she received were powerful. Pain. Not now, later. Good archers. She lowered her hands. Tingling pain in her cheek. Later. She made a step forward. Punctured thigh. She winced but withstood. She tried to rose her sword hand up. Some resistance. Better not. She took a deep breath ready to cry for attack. And she choked. Couldn’t breathe. Her hand fell down. Her body needed air. It was gasping desperately. No use. She could felt like every gasp made breathing tougher. Calm down. Not so desperately. She tried to calm her breath. She felt her lungs hurting.
If she pay attention she would hear cavalry and infantry getting closer.
A boy that was riding with her rode first. He stopped near Homura and half-jumped half-fell from horse. They disappeared in the cloud of other riders.

Norai was frustrated. how could it be? He lost sight of the samurai-ko who had refused fighting with him.
The dust from horses hoofs is getting closer to the archers. Dangerously closer. A few of the archers are already considering to move back, their leader probably is not going to see them leaving, he is too concerned looking ahead.
Norai delays his orders just a few seconds while his eyes scan the streets in search for the Lion who avoided him. Search for the Lion that the Shireikan had ordered him to kill. This delay would be costly.
The walls on the south side of the street starts to crackle. It's not only dusty from horses moving, it's also smoke blurring their vision. All the shoji screens turns into nothing and feeds a fire that grow stronger inside that house. It's just a matter of time until the flames brings down the wide wooden wall that keeps the fire out of this street.
Norai doesn't seems to bother by any of it. Losing sight of Lion is all that matters.
READY YOUR BOWS!
But may be, he could do it without seeing.

Somebody was pulling by her hand. Hyaku. What was he doing here? She couldn’t ask. She managed to breathe but breaths were swallow, nearly enough to provide necessary air but not sufficient for anything else. Even though she was lucky. She wrenched her hand. Kid looked at her. We gotta go. You’re not in state for battle. Get… the horse. Her voice was quiet but firm. Boy wanted to protest but shot his mouth and did what she said. That was stupid. She wouldn’t be able to get on it not to mention fighting from above. At least Hyaku will have something to do. He shouldn’t be here at all.
She made a few steps towards the fight. It was her stupid idea to attack in such conditions. Couldn’t leave her people now. She needed to be there. Something in the thigh was hurting. Arrow. She broke it and then the rest: one in the arm, one that punctured her lung and the last one…
Second salvo of arrows were shot. Non of them reached Homura. Most were stopped in the front. By her friends and subordinates bodies and horses. She heard their squeaks and groans.
She broke the last arrow, which stuck right into fissure in her armor, between chest and abdomen. That one pained like hell. Where’s the sake? Broken bottle cut her fingers. Damn. No painkillers for now. Gotta go. Quickly. They are fighting there. Can’t leave them alone. She moved slowly towards the fights.
