"What happened to the Frog when it trusted the Scorpion?" Yamuso said with a grin. He edged the Jingasa back a little, letting the breeze from the ride touch his face. "In a land like this, I would assume abject fear to be a far more precious commodity than trust. We have shared company twice, if you trusted me now, I would most assuredly seek to end you."
Yamuso looked at him and continued. I live by the tenants of Shourido. I believe that it is the only truthful principles left in a world that has lost its way. If you trusted me now, it would prove you lack the knowledge and insight to control the situation, and I would be doing Daigotsu-dono a service by ending your existence. " He looked back at the road. "Thankfully, I know better." Yamuso sat quiet for a second. " So a Chuda eh? They are always fascinating company. "

"Were that the case, Yamuso-san," Thrakhath said gravely, "I would expect you to attempt to strike me down." That grin he seemed to be so fond of returned. "Whether or not you would succeed, however, is another matter." He waved his hand in a dismissive gesture. "But that's a discussion for another time."
The guards opened the gates without question, and the four samurai passed through. "As for the Chuda," he said, "they are the lowest sort of scum, but they have their uses." He frowned, as that nagging sense of something being off returned. "A conversation with one of them regarding this scroll should be most enlightening." The four men rode into the stables and dismounted. "I'm curious, what's your opinion regarding them?"

A messanger arrives to THrakhath. He seems to be in a hurry and bears the mon of Daigotsu and that of Alesha, you can smell taint on that man, without doubt he is one of deranged killers that are following the Fallen Crane. Kneeling deeply and repectfully he presents a letter, and informs of its content.
"Lord-Regent-dono.
Alesha-sama informs you that a Crane raiding party is in vicinity of City of Lost. He is asking for permission to intercept it. Kakita daimyo herself is the prize."

"The Chuda....." Yamuso thought for a moment, he had never really spent much time with them aside from the one he served under at Toshi Ranbo and a few acolytes who were ever present bustling around the Shadowed Dojo. "I believe that the Chuda gravitate to their position, because they are missing something. Maybe they missed what their purpose was before they arrived here? Maybe they lost something? Maybe its just a primal desire, like revenge. They are as unpredictable as the storm clouds that roll over the Utaku and Lion Plains. Will it rain? Will it lightning? Will the Kami unleash their fury? Yamuso paused for a moment, and then said Or will it blow over, and just be a dark spot on the bright sky?

"That's always the trick with the Chuda," Thrakhath said as they entered the palace proper. "One never knows quite how they'll react in any given situation..."
He trailed off as a messenger hurried to meet them; clearly a former Crane by the look of him. Thrakhath opened the scroll presented by the man and frowned. "Cranes? Here in the Shadowlands?" He rolled the scroll back up. "Follow me," he said to the messenger, leading them to his office. He grabbed a sheet of parchment and penned a quick response, stamping the bottom of the letter with his official seal. "Take this to Alesha," he said, handing the message to the fallen Crane. The messenger bowed profusely and took off running. Almost as an afterthought, he penned another quick letter, stamped it, and handed it to one of his guards. "See that this finds its way to a Goju, any of them will do," he said.
"As you say, lord," the guard said, bowing.
Thrakhath turned to Yamuso. "Ready to brave the storm?"
The contents of the letter to Alesha are as follows:
Alesha-san,
Much as I would relish the idea of hunting honorable samurai on our own turf, I'm afraid I must decline your offer. There is another matter that requires my undivided attention. You, however, are under no such constraints. You have my permission to find this band of idiots and deal with them as you see fit. I expect a full report when the task is complete.

"Always." Yamuso replied. ""What would bring the Crane here I wonder...." Yamuso's tone was slightly sarcastic as he grinned "Do you have a Chuda in mind Thrakhath-sama?"

"I have one in mind, yes," Thrakhath replied. "She's a little more... off... than most, but she's loyal in her own way." He smirked. "She won't defy me, in any case." He motioned for Yamuso to follow, collected a couple of guards, and led them all back to the stables. OOC: Continued here.
