If it was so simple, Quarin-san... it's not only because my sense of pride. Maybe Alesha is now a minor threat to my clan, but she thought in what Shoju became ...he can easily turn into something worse and dangerous to everyone. I'll not permit him to grow into something like that. Moved by passion and seeming not to follow any reasoning besides his heart's... and using corrupted sorcery to achieve his objectives... and knowing the very truth about my clan and family's might... it's too much to allow him to keep walking. But... I'll make my family proud, be sure. It was demanded of me, it will be accomplished. Mitsouko seemed to consider something for a brief minute, then casually asked: You seem not to be proud of sharing the manly characteristics, for all you said before... It's only your general view of men or just applies to "my men", Quarin-san?

For the first time Mitsouko saw Quarim uncomfortable. He slipped his tea but did so as a nervous gesture.
After some hesitation he finally explained. I study how people behave. It is required of my occupation. I have seen far too many men throw away their future, their honor, their lives all because of lust. I have never understood it.
If my understanding is correct one of the points of Bushido is to prevent such behavior. I am sure there are many honorable samurai. But so far I am unimpressed. Bushido has done nothing to ebb the appetite of the men around you. I am sure in many ways many would think I am the same the way I act around you. But we both know differently now don't we?

I like to think I have other personal qualities for which I am appreciated by, and not only by men's lust, since I am neither a seductress, nor a lovely maiden. But you know better… Though, she arched an eyebrow I hope you are not saying my friend Sojiro is framed in this category as well, because I will think poorly of your observation skills, Quarin-san.
She played with the pendant he gave her for a moment, then put it on her own neck.
And no, your interest can’t be for lust, I do not doubt of your profit goals… But, as we are talking so intimately to one another… Did you kill the Lion?

You have many qualities. I do hope others get a chance to see them.
He had always consider Sojiro in with the other men around Mitsouko. He was always near her and very familiar with her. He decided not to admit that perhaps he was wrong and moved on to other subjects of more interest to her.
I did kill the Lion. The Hare representative was investigating you and I sought to distract him. It did not have the results I expected but it worked well none the less. You departed so quickly that perhaps you did not hear an Otomo disappeared. He had caught a spy just the day before and was awarded great honor. While the two seemed completely unrelated he was sure she would understand the implications of what he was saying.

I see. She remained thoughtful for a moment, digesting the information. You know Quarin-san, you remind me the tiger that was fond of a man, but in a time of extreme scarceness of food, brought to the man the hand of his own baby girl?

Quarim let out a heartfelt laugh. He was genuinely amused by Mitsouko.
I suppose there is some truth to that. But I do have your best interest in mind. Keep your self safe on this up coming trip. And please keep in mind what I have said about your men. You are a legend Lady Kakita. But how you are remembered has yet to be written.
I must be going. When we meet again we will further discuss what has transpired here and where we will go from here. I look forward to meeting you again soon.
