Yamuso turned and walked back to the map. "Well, there are only a few places that a Crane would stow something like this. At home, or with the Phoenix." he turned and looked at Thrakhath. " And given the current political climate, and the war, I think it is safe to rule out the Phoenix."
Yamuso thought for a minute. "If we are to believe that they were only after the fallen crane, then we are to believe that their acquisition of the item was pure happenstance" He scratched lightly at his neck as though he needed to shave. "When a man stumbles upon a valuable trinket when committing murder, the theft of the trinket is more likely to get him caught than the murder. "

"Perhaps they decided it was too dangerous to leave in the Shadowlands," he said. "The power of the thing is difficult to miss," he mused, "someone who perceives herself to be of excessive virtue, as Mitsouko clearly does, might come to such a conclusion." He cocked his head to the side a a bit as he stared at the map. "I think it's safe to say that, even if the helm is not there now, it was in Seawatch Castle at some point. The question is, would Mitsouko take it with her? If the Crane were to attempt to destroy the helm themselves, who would they trust with the job?" He frowned. "A trip to Benten Seido may be unavoidable."

Yamuso thought for a moment. " If she didn't take it herself, she is personally attending the details of its shipment. No one takes an item of power and then entrusts it to underlings to transport. As far as destroying it? If not the Phoenix, they would need an Artisan. Someone skilled enough to have an expert knowledge of Nemuranai."
Yamuso held up his hand. and put up one finger. " It wont be the Crab. They are currently at each other's backs. " He held up another finger. " It wont be the Tsi. They are such a minor clan that isolation from the great clans is the only way to ensure they survive this war." He held up a third finger. "It wont be the Phoenix. That would draw the attention of the Inquisitors."
Yamuso began to pace for a moment, and then looked at Thrakhath. " This will be handled by the Crane and the Crane alone, probably someone who is close to the Kakita Daimyo, or in her debt. Maybe a trip to Benten Seido is just what we need?

Thrakhath stood for a moment silently, facing the map but with eyes unfocused. Finally, he grabbed one end of the map and started folding. "So it would seem," he said. "We will stop on the way and put the generous Kakita's authorizations to good use." Once the map was secure he motioned for Yamuso to follow him. "We can come up with a plan of action on the way." Thrakhath left the tent and began barking orders at his troops to break camp and prepare to leave.

Crane Cadence. The authorization was easy to track, after all, and contained simple but effective information that would lead their users to be identified every time they use it. They were identified as enemies, perilous individuals to be watched with careful discretion. While she rode to Benten Seido, accompanied by her attendants and friends, the Crane hatamoto sent a message to Gigi Seido, addressed to Daidoji Jun, and other to Daidoji Ryumon. She needed to talk to both as soon as possible, and demanded Jun's presence in Benten Seido. This man was a harrier, and as Hatamoto of the clan Kakita Mitsouko knew exactly why they existed for. Yes, the false sohei were right. Mitsouko knew who they were. She experienced the embrace of Jigoku once, eve if it was a brief kiss, and even though her rationalizations weren’t perfect, as she linked Yamuso to both Haruka and Alesha’s fall, she was aware of their general objectives. Right now, she was concerned in keep them away of the now overly superstitious soldiers of the First Legion, stationed in Seawatch Castle. Maybe she could have killed them right there, but, for a moment, she felt the life in her womb so fragile and gave up attacking them. But she wasn’t regretted of that. Her family was overly cautious, hurt from the massacre in Seawatch Castle, and her intention was to not give room for paranoia and panic among the people. Since Mitsouko wasn’t sure of what they could do, she couldn’t measure their power and wasn’t willing to cause another tragedy in Nanhan. She was utterly concerned in not to breed another Shoju with any stupid action and yet, do the right thing. They were probably after the item, and it was just another reason to make sure they won’t have it. She would have to wait after her wedding to know what the Asahina Hatamoto, Yuuto-san, had found about the helm. And depending on what he said, she was already planning its final destiny… She played with the first cherry blossom of the spring, given by her betrothed before they departed to opposite sides. Battou was accompanying Yuuto and Yumi; but soon he would be melting that monstrous thing for good…
