Thrakhath watched the spot Yamuso indicated, but he saw nothing that resembled people there. If there was a maho spell that would allow his eyes to penetrate magical invisibility, he was not aware of one. "I'm open to suggestions," he growled quietly, never taking his eyes off the spot.

Yamuso shook his head. "No Sama, I don't wish for you to see. I wish for you to burn this place thoroughly. Drive them out of the hiding of the kami, and I will finish that fool."

Then, suddenly Battou appeared, out of thin air. His clothing was stripped down to the waist, and if he had been wounded; which Yamuso knew very well he had been, it was gone now.
"Looking for little old me?"
He smiled as he placed his hand on his sword, ready to draw.
"Two to one? Barely a fair fight for a kakita. You should have two more at least."
{ooc}I sent you both PMs, I figure I might know how to move forward. {/ooc}

"So smug," Thrakhath growled. "For how long, I wonder?" He circled to one side of Battou, Yamuso instinctively moving into a flanking position. Thrakhath flexed his hands, crouching slightly as he moved, looking for all the world like a predatory beast waiting to leap on its prey. Battou stood perfectly still, that grin still plastered to his face, turning his head slightly to watch them both out out of his peripheral vision but otherwise making no movements.
The eyes of the Spider warriors met for the barest of seconds. Then, seemingly all at once, all three men exploded into motion. Thrakhath darted forward, then just as quickly leaped backward as Battou dodged Yamuso's blades and drew his own. Thrakhath looked down momentarily at the new gaping wound in his gut; apparently he'd yet again narrowly avoided being sliced in half by a Kakita. Twice in one day.
The clash of metal on metal drew his attention back to the fight, as Yamuso and Battou danced around each other, weapons flashing. Thrakhath waded back into the fray, staying opposite Yamuso and trying to make himself a distraction, but Battou was having none of it. He dodged what hits he could and took a couple of punches here and there, but his attention remained focused on the more dangerous opponent.
The three men went on like that for some time, with no one making any real headway, when Thrakhath picked up on a rumbling sound somewhere to his left. Thrakhath took a step away from the fray and looked. There, standing by the forge, was the shugenja they'd ignored up until now, muttering what Thrakhath could only assume was a prayer. Suddenly the ground beneath them began to rumble, and his eyes widened at the implication. "COVER!" he yelled, more for Yamuso's benefit than anyone else, and threw himself to the ground, just as a violent explosion rocked the cavern and filled the room with smoke.
Oddly enough, Thrakhath had never experienced an explosion like that since he'd died, and he was surprised to find out his ears could still ring. He shook his head in a vain attempt to clear them and pushed himself to his feet. A thin haze still hung in the air, but he managed to make out the form of Yamuso slowly recovering from the blast as well. The forge itself was ruined, and neither Crane was anywhere to be found. He brushed dust off of his clothes and tore a chunk of rock out of his arm, flexing it to make sure it still worked. He frowned as the thought occurred to him that, short of walking around in full armor all the time, it would be nigh-impossible to pass himself off as alive after this day.
Neither Crane sprang from the shadows as Thrakhath crossed the room to Yamuso; it seemed the pair had beat a hasty retreat. "You look none the worse for wear," Thrakhath commented as he approached.
Yamuso took in Thrakhath's ravaged body, but made no comment on it. "It seems out prey has escaped, lord," he said, disappointment evident in his tone.
Thrakhath snorted in disgust. "We should do the same, let them run," he snarled. "I've had enough of this place."

Battou having been aware of the plan from the beginning had never made the move that would kill either one of them, as it would have sacrificed himself to the other. After the shattering explosion that ruined the ancient forge he had stood over Yamuso's twisting form for just a moment longer and then had not killed him. He grabbed Kaede and they bolted out of the room.
On their way down the stairs, Battou found his battered and bloodied wife's limp form clutching on the stairs. The first thought was shock, the second was worry, and the third was that they had to move out of here quickly. She was in danger and even he could tell. He sheathed his sword and picked her up in his arms, trying to hold her delicately which of course, was impossible. He rocked and shook as he ran down the stairs with Kaede. As they got to the bottom of the stairs, Kaede had finished imploring the kami to grant them the gift of aerial movement and they were off across the sky.
Kaede said nothing, having to concentrate on the spell that held them aloft; however the look on her face was such that Battou could not help but worry about his unconcious wife.
"Hold on Mitsouko. We will get you home."

In the place where Mitsouko were put adrift, sounds come distorted, but the meaning of his voice tone reached the thin thread of her conciousness. It was of someone long lost in the tides of time, but again so close... and the voice was reassuring her of the fact they were again together. Her eyes cracked open for few seconds, and well... it was...Battou? She would like to laugh at the destiny, but it would require exactly what she was using to keep her heart beating. It was a good sign. He is alive. I don't know how, but he is. And we are coming home.
