"was there no tea left in the cup when you threw it Akodo Tomatsu-sama?"
There was. However it spilled out as it was thrown. I remember that the ground was so cold that when the hot tea hit it, it created steam, rather strange sight Kitsuki-san. He said paying her an obvious compliment by calling her san and giving her a big, friendly smile.
He sat quietly observing the conversation for a while. He nodded in agreement with the correlation between the Tortoise story and his own, accepting a cup of tea from the Tortoise and taking a sip. He continued to merely observe the conversation, till Ichiro-san spoke to him.
Surely the Bayushi Bushi school teaches the art of warfare, I do believe your clan possess one of the remaining three copies of Sun Tao's work. However I would be honored to review any material you wish and offer my advice. However I will also do my best to not teach you anything you could not have learned yourself. Otherwise Senshi-san will know that I have been helping you.
He said as he placed another tea cup, without looking, in front of Jereru. He knew he wasn't into his cups, he just wanted to allow him to save some face. Times were tough on this man, far tougher than they should be. He deserved some help.
He turned his end of the conversation back to the younger Kitsuki. So tell me Kitsuki-san, how long has it been since your Gempukku? Surely your family must be proud of producing such a fine samurai-ko as yourself. I truly appreciate meeting a samurai who will speak to me of ordinary things. He smiled again.

Ichiro bows his head towards Tomastu in gratitude.
"Understood Champion. I am grateful for the help and will do everything in my power to make sure that I do not miss an opportunity to learn from your experience. I will send a retainer to your camp tomorrow to request an audience with you to review my work.
Ichiro takes a sip of his sake and a couple of bites of his meal. Knowing full well if he didn't his stomach would roar like a lion. He has been enjoying the company gathered so far and wonders what will become of it. For know though he is interested in what else everyone will say next.

Yuushahime nodded at Ichiro's words, pondering how best to respond to them.
"If it is your duty to escort me then I can hardly refuse. I would not call accompanying one so low of status as myself an honour but I myself would be honoured to be guarded by such a considerate daimyo who always wishes to learn more. I would enjoy speaking to you further during our journey too..."
Her voice trails off as Tomatsu begins speaking to Haru. "We can arrange the details tomorrow I am sure. For now, with such esteemed company, we should learn more about each other so we can support and trust one another when faced with the trials that will inevitably be ahead of us"
She then started to eat her food finally, as some began to arrive for the other guests. She also dipped her head to Himiwari who had kindly filled her cup - drinking it with a slight purr to show her appreciation.
Meanwhile, Haru was relaxing and enjoying the words of Tomatsu and the Tortoise's story. She blushes slightly as Tomatsu asked her about herself and complimented her, addressing her as an equal. She felt bad that it had been interpreted she was past her gempukku and suddenly felt a wave of humility
"Eto, actually sama I have no yet had my gempukku. It is scheduled for the near future. I look forward to the opportunity to show my worth to my family. Please forgive my forwardness but... can I ask how you found your own?"
Haru bowed her head low, her had wrapped around her tea cup shaking slightly. Yuushahime touched her arm for a brief moment and this helped to calm the girl

The humble Tortoise moves backwards, nodding slightly to the member of the table. This is the gesture of request to leave the presence of those at the table.
Kitsuki-Sama, it has been a joy to see you again after the Winter Court. I am excited for your opportunities among both the Scorpion and the Crane. Surely you will become one of the most skilled of Courtiers while in their company, if you are not already...
It is a rare gift, and burden, to have one so young gifted with such a great responsibility. I myself was given the responsibility to care for Someisa, our ancient tortoise, when I was young. I would, when I was young, panic over the lettuce that was provided, the birds that pestered overhead, and the shade that must be provided. If so small a task caused me such concern, I cannot imagine how strong you must be to shoulder the relationship of two of the mightiest of courtly clans to your own people.
I have heard tale of a rider of winds, a man of great power and painted face, who will soon be joining you. Please send him my greetings and well wishes. He is a man of swift action with much to recommend him.
I will be here for some time, helping gather and coordinate intelligence on the Yobanjin, should the leaders of this great host of Samurai need me. But should you have time in the future, and wish to discuss or contemplate simpler things, whether in gardens or inns... please linger over considering my company. Sometimes a slow wind brings great change.
To my other friends and companions, may you enjoy this night, and ever serve the Son of Heaven. I have drank of your sake and tea, and provided what little service I can. You are the ink on the scroll, noble Samurai. I will watch, read, and pray for the words which bring glory to our Empire.
And should you need respite or hospitality, in this city, I am merely steps away.
Gambarimashoo.
A long, deep bow rustles his robes of blue and gold as the Tortoise backs away. The quiet yojimbo, who had been watching from a distance, steps up and into place beside the Kasuga. With one raised eyebrow, she seems to say more than a hundred of the Kasuga's words.... the night, for the Tortoise Clan, was far from over...

The shifting outline of a horse, a construct of wind generated by its magical bridle, bore him at impossible speeds along the line of troops flying the black Dragon banner. His own sashimono threatened to tear off its pole as he sped along. Soon, Katsuoshi was in sight.
He had left his own troops under the command of his second, as he felt no need to instruct them in the construction of a camp. He was a reluctant military commander, talented enough but more prone towards personal action.
Once within a hundred feet of Katsuoshi, the horse disappeared in a gust of wind, and Jiyuu floated to the ground and began striding towards his position.
Konnichi ha, Katsuoshi-san!

The horse Katsutoshi rode on struggled, afraid of the surprising appearance of the Kuni by mystical means. Most of the men near the Steel Dragon readily flanked their commander in case of any attempt with their commander's life.
Katsutoshi, nearly falling from his horse, signaled his men to ease up, as soon as he recognized the Crab shugenja. Bowing slighty, the Steel Dragon returned the Kuni's greeting.
"Pleasant surprise to see you Jiyuu-san..." Katsutoshi stared at the approaching Kuni "What can I do for you?"
Quickly remembering the sensitivity of their old conversation, Katsutoshi signalled the Kuni to follow him, towards the well known inn found in the capital, the Emerald Lantern.

I apologize for any alarm I may have caused, Katsuoshi-san. My own men have become accustomed to my... eccentricities. Sometimes I forget that others have not.
Jiyuu follows Katsuoshi toward the inn, smiling slightly at the thought of warmth and food after a long journey.

"It seems our conversation would be cut short Jiyuu-san." Katsutoshi stopped his steed then squinted towards the gates of the capital "Look!"
To where the Steel Dragon pointed, a massive built up of dust approached their direction coming from the capital, and in the few moments both men stood and watched, they saw the variety of clan banner waiving, and the men who held it. Leading the army, was the bastard son of Toturi himself, Kaneka.
The Shogun's march had begun.
Katsutoshi signaled his men to join the march.
(OOC: To late for me to make an appearance at the emerald lantern. I'll just make it up in another thread.)

Ichiro hears the honorable good-bye for the Kasuga, and sips some more of his sake. He then places down his cup and nods his head slightly towards the Tortoise.
"Kasuga-san, I hate for you to go but I truly understand that one must get your band of of Minor Clans and try to make a good showing of yourselves. I sincerely hope that you and your alliance make a name for yourselves upon the fields of battle."
Ichiro then fills and raises his cup of sake.
"To your glorious and honorable service to the Emperor, may it go noticed and regarded well by history."
Ichiro then takes a sip of his drink and places the cup back down again. his eyes looking at the Kasuga heavy lidded and emotionless.

I see. Well, that is unfortunate, a rest would have been welcome. If you'll pardon me a moment, I must inform my men of the change in plans.
Jiyuu concentrates, and speaks some words in a language Katsutoshi had never heard before. The faintly glowing form of a huge bat congeals in the air and speeds off.
There now, that's taken care of. Tell me, friend Katsutoshi, what are your thoughts on the battle ahead? Ah, shall I give us some privacy?

"No need Jiyuu-san..." Katsutoshi looked on while waiting for the majority of the huge army to pass his unit by, trying to spot the Dragon forces, in order to join the march "Our conversation might be short than expected anyway."
Glancing at the direction of the Kuni;
"You ask me my thoughts in the upcoming battle? "Glorious" would be the word to describe it. But the practical man in me suggests that subtlety could end this invasion without using the full force the "Bastard" intends to use."
His face glances back to the nearing army;
"However, that is another story. My instinct does point that this will be a long battle, and might drain the empire's military as a whole. I think it would be wise if we send a small number of men to infiltrate the Yobanjin camp and find out their weakness, and while doing so, begin the process of poisoning the invaders from the inside, as this majority of soldiers crushes them from the outside."
Katsutoshi's glances back at Jiyuu, his face sporting that predaotry smile;
"Do you see where I am getting at, Jiyuu-san?"

Yuushahime returns the bow as Himawari leaves and goes back to filling the cups herself. She makes a mental note to return the compliment and learn more from the man in future. She thinks "that is an interesting one with much promise" as she listens to the conversation flow around her.
When Ichiro made a toast she joined in the cheer and finally had her first sip of the sake that had been poured for her moments before. She called a servant to take away the tea.
"Yes, to the success of the Minor Clan Alliance and to us all in our dutiful service to the Emperor!"
She let her voice carry over the wide room and was not surprised when a few other tables cheered as well. The restaurant was full of spirit. Many guests on other tables began to order drinks to join in with similar toasts

The town of Tsuma was usually silent outside of the Topaz championship period. Even with the shogun's call most people had only passed through rather than find lodging in the small city.
Daidoji Hikori left his steed to the castles servants and went to his room. There Daidoji Gobei already expected him. Gobei bowed low to his superior and waited to make his report.
" We have arrived at Tsuma yesterday as your uncle Kunehito sama had ordered. We did not approach Toshi Ranbo or contact the shogun or the generals following him in any way as were also our orders. With us we have brought 10 wagons of rice that are currently stationed within the castle planned. What are our orders sama?"
Hikori nods in approval
"Gobei san I compliment you and your team and will not forget to place a positive report on your behalf in my report to Kunehito sama. We are to wait until further notice from Lord Doji Yoshi and then we will bring the rice to the generals. In the mean time I have to travel to Toshi Ranbo. You will be in charge in my stead and will inform me of any new orders. I will be residing at the emerald lantern."
After Gobei leaves, Hikori starts preparations for his trip. There is much to be done and there is someone who is already waiting for him.

(ooc: Placed fuller posts in the spots I had reserved above - please do read! Apologies again for taking so long to get back to this. Please do continue this rp. It takes place before the army marches obviously!)
Yuushahime observed as the restaurant increased dramatically in activity. Her Mirumoto guard seemed hard pressed to follow it all as he watched the room for any sign of hostility. She felt a slight urge to get him to relax less he sour the mood but knew he would never accept.
She continued her conversation with Ichiro instead.
"The sake here is enjoyable enough, as is the food and hospitality. It is difficult to pin down the unique aspects of the Imperial City though - it borrows so much from all of us. I have had the pleasure of journeying through Scorpion lands yet. Please tell me a little something about your territories? What is it that you love most about them?"
She glanced around the room as he answered, waiting for one other to arrive. She had come to the restaurant here for another reason too. She was expecting a certain Crane magistrate to meet her here.
