I'm glad to see Hirotomo attempting to follow the correct procedure with his banners and what not. I don't care for it much either and in that way we are alike, but I do admit the need. I take the opportunity to adjust my kimono and make sure I look at least somewhat presentable after the long journey. It isn't easy. My legs feel quite stiff now.
Later, when we rode into town, I was slightly surprised to see things looking quite well. The lack of peasants was unusual but not completely so. The Lord, overweight and sycophantic though he was, likely made sure to have them ushered away. I find his words unnecessary and beyond believeable flattery but if Hirotomo can bear them then I shall do the same. Somehow I hold back a frown and remain expressionless. I dismount slowly and stretch my legs, careful not to walk before I am ready to as it may show weakness. I ride more than most Dragon but evidently I don't ride still enough.
I am taken to the side for counsel by Hirotomo. "That is the burden of rank sama. However, it has its priviliges. You can order anything in your own lands afterall. If he wishes to attatch anyone to you then you can dismiss them. Do be mindful that ordering too much and dismissing guards is seen as quite disrespectful. He is... tiresome, but he may be a good man. We do not know yet". I finish and step back. This is something Hirotomo has to figure out. I can always slip away and investigate matters if I have to.

I chew my lip as I think. "I'll distract the man. You speak with the commoners, I'll come up with something.
I don't want to make this investigation public yet. The Governor may be a bit overzealous in his declaration of adoration, but he may be a good man. I don't want to shame him if there is nothing to worry about. "Perhaps we can discuss my visit over tea," I say looking at the son. The fat man is quick to oblige, declaring that he's been saving a rare Phoenix tea for just such an occasion. The guards start to head in, and I gesture to Rinko as I do my best to command the Governor's attention. I hope she has luck. I'm not sure if that luck will mean nothing is wrong, or something is terribly wrong. I can't decide which I want, and the guilt of that is tying a knot in my stomach.
On of the Toku servants spoke quickly to Rinko as he readied the horses to be stabled. "Kitsuki-dono. My Lord said this may come up. He did not want to shame the Governor with investigation if nothing was wrong. He said he may not be able to stall the man for long. Please hurry he said. The man blushed furiously. He avoided Rinko's eyes. "He also said he loved you, my lady. The servant ran off with the horses.

Rinko nodded at the servant's words and watched him depart. She called over one of the local guards as she began making her way outwards from the village's centre. She gave him a message to pass on "Please say that I am visiting the shrines here. If he asks why I did not announce this then please say I had wished to thank the spirits for a safe journey immediately upon arriving could not delay further after being held here by the local daimyo's kind introduction". In a louder voice she asked about which shrines there were before seeming to think about which to visit. The guard asked where exactly she would be but she brushed off the question with a vague statement "one should not think of oneself when one thinks of the kami". With that she was heading into town, leaving the guard a little bewildered. He seemed torn between following her, following the main group now disappearing into his Lord's hall or reporting to his superior that Rinko was heading off alone.
Carefully appearing to walk away casually, the first chance Rinko had of moving quickly after disappearing from the guard's view she seized upon. With one hand she steadied her daisho as she began to jog towards where she recalled she had seen some of the village houses before. Her eyes darted around for any sign of life. Had all the peasants been ordered to vacate the area during the visit? She was willing to travel to the fields but surely someone was about?

The small town in quiet, eerily so. The last few loud words of the Governor become unintelligible, as he leads Hirotomo into his estate.
There were no signs of life in the huts, or in any of the shops. The forge from the local blacksmith was still hot, but the craftsmen were nowhere to be seen. Carts had tarps pulled over them, and the livestock lie unattended in the fields. There was a quick rustling in one of the far huts, as though someone had tripped, and there were shushes of admonishment, then silence again.

This was all very unusual. Were the people here very fearful or merely ordered to stay away?
I went over to where the noise was coming from. It wasn't hard to tell people were hiding.
"I'm not here to hurt anyone or get you in trouble. I just have some questions" I call out
