I agree. Maybe Jay could code the system that if you don't spend the points before you level up it automatically spends one on each of your class skills.

I'm not making a balanced character. I am part of the Dragon. My clan is about synergy. We work together. The Tamori do the magic, the Kitsuki handle the court stuff while the Mirumoto handles the battles for us. I have complete trust and faith in others in my clan (IC and OOC) that I know I do not have to spend my points on skills that my clanmates are focused on. "The daimyo's agents are cautious, waiting weeks or even months for the proper time to enact their plans, and have never engaged an enemy they were not completely prepared for." - Secrets of the Dragon, p. 54 As I have built my character to be a former vassal of Shaitung, I adhere to her ways. I did not put points into battle that would have allowed me to move into the Northern Steppes. I am Yamabushi but 200 was too high for me. My mind was set on spellcraft. I waited and have now been given the chance to strike. Would this mean I lose the chance to do other jobs? Most probably, but I already knew that from the start. That said, how ironic that the Master of the Void consider me as "random" when my void is higher. But again you are an Agasha, so I guess that reaction is to be expected.

...No, I'm quite happy with saving up points. The main reason being for as you said, in case there's a job I don't have the skill to do. Contests don't really matter to me since none of them have been in my class skills yet (stealth, seduction, hunting, investigation), which means I have no chance of winning any of them. I would be annoyed though if a new job came up and I had to wait 5 levels to get the skill points I needed to do the job.

Just didn't recognize your name is all, Koichi. You never chimed in on the Highest Status board... But then neither did Sprinkles or Kiso. Shoju and I were both convinced we were going to be duking it out for the #1 spot.

I'm not telling people they should make "balanced" characters. I spent my points in a way that allows me to do jobs up to a certain level without having to switch my gear around.
That's my thing.
I just don't think it is "right" to be able to pulll 300 character points and then blow them all in one pop.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. As long as everyone's playing by the rules, I really don't have any complaints.

I might say a limit to how many you can spend in a day, but not against saving up.

I'm fine with things as is. I know I have a fair shot at kenjutsu, but in reality theres someone out there who has banked more points, and I'm prepared for that.

Maybe that's what we need a limit to spent per day. I hope no one thinks I'm mad about losing. I'm not. I'm bummed for sure because I had really hoped I had a good shot at it (and you guys are almost 50% ahead of me.
I just think that the "save for a contest" kind of defeats the idea of the game. With so many peple clamoring to make it more like the P&P, I don't even remember being able to pool points in the P&P game for something.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you could. It just seems... not something I would ever do.

I'm fine with the status quo as well. Contests don't really interest me, I prefer the votes. I may have a shot at the top ten Kenjutsu contest if it comes up, but I know I won't be the best. As far as the RPG goes, I know you can't go more than one level of a skill or such per session. Once I made sure all the other skills I have can reach 50 with items, I threw myself in Kenjutsu, but I do see the point in saving them up.

I'd stab in the eye the one... who would force me to add my "free" points, that I am collecting. I mean... add them when I reach a higher level or it will be added randomly O.o This is a bit insane you know... It is my choice to raise those skills I want at that moment. Besides, I am always having at least 50 points that are ready to add... just in case new jobs/competitions. Why? Because I can! MUAHAHAHAHA! *evil laugh that can creep Fu-Leng out*

Okay, so it was a bad idea. I was trying to improvise. *Ducks Kasumi's blade of choice aimed at his eye.*

in the tabletop version you cannot get to level 197 either - so the parallels cannot be easily forced.

Precisely. I mean, If you are allowed to pool and spend points in this fashion, it's allowable under the rules, and I'm not going to hold it against anyone.
It just seems...... like a cheap way to go about doing it.
