Two letters have been presented by the Crane Clan in order to grant their aid during the times of war, addressed to the Lion and the Scorpion Clan.
To the Lion:
Esteemed Akodo Tomatsu, Champion of the Lion,
in the face of the rising tension in the very gates of the Imperial Capital, both of our people have been blessed by the glory of an honorable battle. The Imperial Office has taken notice of the participation of the Scorpion Clan amidst both of our armies ranks, followed by the kind gesture of the Scorpion Champion Bayushi Senshi-sama himself, to invite Asako Izuko, the Imperial Ambassador to Kyuden Bayushi. Following this very gesture, the Emperor has asked that the Clan of the Scorpion is to be allowed a voice in the Imperial Court of Toshi Ranbo. Therefore, in the honor of Jin and Rei, the virtues of Bushido for Respect and Benevolence, the true honorable code of the samurai, I kindly ask you to cease hostilities immediately to allow the voice of the Scorpion Clan and its retinue, safe passage in the Halls of Toshi Ranbo.
With esteem and gratitude, Doji Naetaru, diplomat of the Crane Clan.
To the Scorpion:
Most Esteemed Bayushi Senshi-sama, Champion of the Scorpion,
during these arduous times that every noble samurai in Rokugan is facing, the Scorpion Clan graciously welcomed Asako Izuko, the Imperial ambassador among the walls of Kyuden Bayushi. This kind gesture hasn't gone unnoticed by the Imperial authorities an honor to Hantei-kami himself, brother of Bayushi-kami. News have recently arrived in Toshi Ranbo confirmed by the Emerald magistrates that in Kyuden Bayushi the very safety of the Imperial Ambassador had been compromised. However, it has also been noted that her life had been safeguarded by one of your Scorpion samurai named Shosuro Aroru thus honoring the name of your Clan and kami-tono by honoring the virtue of Loyalty, one of the seven virtues of Bushido, the true honorable way of the samurai. Therefore, your presence has been inquired by the Emperor Hantei Naseru-tono himself as of to shed light as of what has happened in the Halls of the Bayushi. The Protector of Toshi Ranbo, and daimyo to the Kakita family, Kakita Mitsouko-sama has offered to send an honor guard to safeguard you a passage in the Imperial City of Toshi Ranbo.
With utmost respect and esteem, Doji Naetaru, diplomat of the Crane Clan.

To Doji Kaetaru san,
My name is Matsu Kaito, son of Matsu Ayako and Ikoma Saito, student of Matsu Seijuro. I fought against the Yobanjin horde and hunted maho tsukai with furious anger. Akodo Tomatsu sama, Champion of the Lion honored me with the task of represent the Lion clan among the Crane clan. He read your letter and uses my voice to answer it.
In the name of my clan I must humbly thank our Crane cousins the remind us for the virtues of Bushido. Though without any offence it is strange from the mouth of a diplomat to lecture the leader of the clan of the warriors for this – not mentioning deficities in your education. Bushido consists of seven virtues.
Gi teaches us to treat our friends and enemies with honesty and justice. That’s why if our enemy is tired of war and asks for peace, we would give him honest and just treaty. This also means we wouldn’t ask for favor in the name of others for the benefit of our clan.
The virtue of Rei asks us to use the appropriate salutation if we make any connection with the different levels of the society. For example a clan Champion as Akodo Tomatsu sama.
May I talk about courage, Yu, which we show not only on the battlefield, but also in the courts. It doesn’t only refer to our acts but the content behind it. Yu is also in our honest and true words, even…no especially if we speak to our enemy. Courage is shown when you tell what you want into the face of the enemy.
Next virtue is Meyo, honor. It is easy to live it among the Lion, but harder to explain it. There’s no honor in slaughtering emissaries from a neutral clan.
A bushi also have to follow the code of Jin so he must be always aware of the duty to protect others. Though the Lion clan can be seen in the eyes of the Empire as furious and bloodthirsty warriors, this virtue remind us for the purpose of war: to maintain peace.
Embracing Makoto is very close to show courage, but this is a mixture of inner courage and self-knowledge. Complete sincerity is when there’s no difference in your actions and words. If this is learnt well, you don’t hesitate to tell your true wish and you wouldn’t write dishonest letters to hide your weakness.
The list wouldn’t be complete without Chugo - duty. Maybe the most important virtue, because it defines the essence of being a bushi. A samurai’s role is to serve his master with honor. The Lion bushi’s duty connects him to Akodo Tomatsu sama, who takes his role with unquestionable honor and keeping the code of Bushido. That’s why we follow his orders with our full heart.
As you can see Naetaru san we, Lion know what Bushido asks from us, and we also do our best to follow that code. We are sure that our Champion will choose the best choice for our clan, and whatever it will be, we’ll follow it with the passion of our ancestors. If the Scorpion clan will ask for safe passage to Toshi Ranbo he will make the decision which will be based on the opinion of his consultants, his ancestors and his heart only – not on a coward letter from his enemy.
To tell you my private opinion: I would feel to be offended in place of the Scorpion leaders.
So tell your Champion Naetaru san, if he wants something from the Lion, he should ask for that directly "in the honor of Jin and Rei".
May your ancestors guide you:

To Matsu Kaito-san,
the Clan of the Crane sincerely thanks the Lion ambassador for the kind and honest reply concerning the Imperial edict of the Scorpion Champion summons. The proceedings are already underway. While we appreciate greatly the invaluable lesson of Bushido that your Clan offers I, a deficient student of the Doji, need you to remind the proper meaning of the Seven Virtues that you so easily confuse. Gi, measures the very truth of a samurai's existence, the way that a samurai is not swayed by lies and fears nothing from them. The very virtue of honesty in which the Crane humbly sent their letter accompanying Emperor Hantei's proclamation. The virtue of Rei which teaches us courtesy, the understanding and respect to the standing of the samurai in the Celestial Order not a mere matter of salutation. This is expected to be followed by true samurai who respect the son of Heavens. Yu, the virtue of Courage shows that even in adversity, one finds the strength, even in fear, to press on and stand above emotions. Courage is what the Crane Clan displays by standing next to Emperor Hantei even against insurmountable odds. Meyo is the virtue of Honor that is found among samurais across Rokugan among every Clan major and minor. A samurai is defined by honor and should he admit that he is honorable without showing respect, then he isn't bound in honor but only by Pride. Jin is the virtue of Compassion that tempers power with mercy. Those who understand that accept that mercy is a fundamental principal of the Celestial Order, the law of the Emperor. Thus the Crane have shown compassion and expect from the Lion to do so. Maintain the peace you so passionately preach of and show proper respect when the Scorpion Champion is escorted in Toshi Ranbo. Makoto is the virtue of Sincerity, one that the Crane greatly respect and that to its tenets adhere grandly. If you estimate that the Crane's last letter was anything but sincere then you're clearly in the dark regarding Makoto, Kaito-san. And last is Chugo, the duty that a samurai must recognize and fulfill. It is Chugo that the Crane follow to the Emperor Hantei and the virtue that during the Day of Thunder, your most esteemed and honorable of Champions Matsu Tsuko displayed and performed the Three Cuts rather than drawing sword versus Hantei the 39th, even if he meant harm to Rokugan's safety. I am quite certain that the Lion Clan understands for they have been the Emperor's guardians since Rokugan's birth, their duty to the Emperor's safety, one they so proudly ignore. As you can notice Matsu-san, being a courtier cannot force one's heart outside of the tenets of bushido. However, treating one with courtesy and sincerity, the virtues that the Crane Clan appreciates in a samurai, makes the proper "ambassador". Please refrain from using that title again while in Crane lands for you have not even the common knowledge regarding lord Doji Yoshi-tono's health and proceed to mockery and jest let alone the respect and humility that this position desires. May you receive this letter with understanding and not pride for it is common hatred and ignorance that forces a samurai to disregard the Order of the Celestial Heavens, as your Clan openly does, and throws him into oblivion.
Doji Naetaru, diplomat of the Crane Clan.

To Doji Naetaru san,
A honestly thank you shared the view of the Crane clan about the code of Bushido. I'm deeply disappointed if you found hatred or ignorance in my words. I can assure you there were none, only the calm decision of a clan was written down in my letter.
Your answer showed me a different side from what my sensei, Matsu Seijuro had thought me about Bushido. If you visit the library of the Kakita Academy, you're going to find, his name among those who were taught there, and I don't remember him as someone who didn't keep his masters advices. This is why you're thinking of the way of the warrior is wierd to me sometimes.
The most outrageous was how you dared to insult the Lion Clan Champion again with overriding his decisions, and giving orders to his nominated representative. If I were your sensei, I would not recognize you as my student due to your failure to recognize your betters with even the basic elements of courtesy. Hopefully he has enough honor and sense to do so.
I regret the prejudice you feel towards the Lion clan, but I hope the years or this war will change this.

(OOC: I hope our letter-changings doesn't make you think me rude, arrogant or anything bad in real life. The letters are just RPing for me. I can assure you I'm a definetly cool guy, and I have no bad feeling towards you in RL, I'm just enjoying my bushi character :-))

Kaito-san,
I am honored that I have shown you the true aspects of the tenets of Bushido taught by Shinsei himself, handed down to the first Kamis. His lessons brought wisdom and enlightenment to their descendants. Akodo's leadership shall prove enlightening for you to read, for it is the Kami's same words they carry and its wisdom they share. However, I deeply regret the fact that you still feel rage and contempt, and once again I would recommend that you retain your composure, for it is not an ambassador's work to let your heart speak before your mind. Thus I would recommend you'd receive some assistance regarding courtly roles and matters. The last thing I would like to express is my worry that you found my words insulting, since they were simply asking from your Clan the common courtesy of allowing the Scorpion Champion Bayushi Senshi-sama safe passage in the city of Toshi Ranbo. By insinuating that my words wish to criticize your esteemed Champion's decisions smudge over the ambassadorial "facade" you vainly try to retain. For once more I remind you of Gi, the virtue of honesty that an honorable samurai embodies. It is the truth that the Lion Clan stands against the Emperor Hantei, for it is the Imperial Capital your army storms. However since it is your warrior spirit talking, it would be better for you to join the battle as your Clan sees fit, rather than trying to scribble some slanderous accusations. With respect and honor, may your ancestors grant you wisdom and guidance General.

To Doji Naetaru san,
I'm still disappionted how you as a diplomat misunderstand a calm decision.
However the time of words is over now, I'm waiting for our first encounter.
