After the recent events, including a Scorpion sitting on the throne (again!), I feel myself obliged to understand a little more about the most awesome (am I infringing any corpyrights here?) “Scrane†in the forums: Bayushi Hiromitsu. Not only he brings us the True Stories, but he gave us the Hiromitsu’s Awesome Games (H.A.G.) in an attempt to ease things of all this war talking. So, when I asked him to concede me this interview, his reaction was:
Kakita-sama, I just want to let you know that normally people don't ask me questions, they make mistakes.
Mitsouko: Yes, I think it can be true until this day. Maybe we can change it a bit, what do you think? So starting… about the “Scrane thingâ€, how it happened and what do you think about it?
Hirotmitsu: Was Doji Naetaru's idea, I liked the sound of it. I am a typical Scorpion, I wish to wear a fine kimono, be surrounded by fine clean things, waste my days with plays, art, and dilettantism to be a decadent, opulent noble. To be a Scrane is like to try to be a rockstar. You can't blame me on wishing.
Mitsouko: Hiromitsu, you are known for your well famous True Stories and how boldly you act to express your loyalties. And loyalty is considered the main paradigm of Scorpion clan. How do you see your own loyalty?
Hiromitsu: To be a true samurai, to be truly loyal, I believe you need to see beyond of orders and wishes of your lord. If you understand what is needed to be done, and willing to take action, you can become more than a tool that can only offer what is asked. You can offer what is needed.
Mitsouko: So it's like if you consider yourself a person who provides what needs to be done before it is asked. Well … And do you think other Scorpion understand your way of doing things?
Hiromitsu: I don't think that I really need to be understood to be useful to my family, clan and empire.
But I try to be comprehensive with the limitations of my superiors.
Mitsouko: LOL. Talking about superiors, you proclaimed yourself Scorpion's Hatamoto, having a great conversation with Hantei himself, and now, you "took the throneâ€, to say so. So technically you don't have any superiors. LOL
But, for the readers, sometimes it's hard to say if Hiromitsu has a purpose or is just too crazy. How do you see it?
Hiromitsu: I still have the Kami, the ancestors and all the fortunes, there's much to climb yet in the celestial order. If sometimes it seems that I behave boldly, It’s to compensate the other scorpions who don't behave at all.
Mitsouko: Ouch! Do you have any names? I suppose don't. No interviewed person has names to give us. And you are a Bayushi right? From the Bitter Lies Dojo? And Wet Rock Dojo? Tell us the differences between these Dojo... I am sure they are now famous because of you.
Hiromitsu: Well, I can't agree with the external policy of my clan, to try to show a face of control and mystery when the clan was in the verge of breaking in two. I have a little more that contempt to people who brag about power, even if they have nothing. They forgot that sometimes, nothing is enough.
I can't agree with a daimyo that is ruled by his wife/husband and put the wishes of strangers above his own clan. And I can't agree with a wife who turns the life of her lord a living hell, putting in jeopardy her very life and the life she carries.
You can be neutral, in a war or battle if you use it for a greater good. If you do nothing with your freedom, that's just lazy and irresponsible. I once more have to praise Aroru-san and Moyotoshi-san from avoiding the clan to walk a wrong path. (And those who are gone must be remembered. I'll be an angry ghost if no one remembers me).
Yes, I am Bayushi. I was student of Wet Rock Dojo, a Bayushi Dojo. It was a small town who lived of the poppies. Now I am at Bitter Lies Dojo in Ryoko Owari Toshi. It’s all too new to me. I can't make justice to compare them right now.
Mitsouko: Very serious concerns. Very serious indeed. Maybe, if everything goes wrong in you Imperial Career, you can be a political advisor to your clan! You really seem suited to be a Hatamoto in my point of view (Who cares about my opinion? I am a Crane!) We brought up serious concerns Hiromitsu has, so I understand in fact he' is not as transparent as we can think at first.
Hiromitsu: Oh no, I am very transparent, very... may be too transparent for my own good... like, nearly invisible sometimes. That's probably what makes me so easily ignored.
Mitsouko: Do you have any clue on why it happens?
I mean, despite you usually receive lots of cheers and kudos, comments and invitations for parties, you think the actions of your character do not influence the roleplay as "more serious looking characters" do?
Hiromitsu: Well, I guess they treat me like a preacher, if they ignore me hard enough, do they hope I go away? But I can't really know, I didn't ask really. I know I give a hard time to people who do roleplay with me. Sorry about that.
Mitsouko: Like, WOW you really did it! You faced the Mistress of Secrets and you talked with Hantei ( I never talked with him...I am a bit jealous you did it and nothing happened with a part of your body, like belly or hand I admit), you proclaimed yourself Scorpion Hatamoto and now you are sat in the Emerald Throne. How do you think it will end?
Hiromitsu: Well... I don't know. I was hoping for a glorious last stand, but I don't know. Maybe they forget about me and sit the emperor (Kaneka or Hantei) in my lap when the war is over.
Mitsouko: Uhn I see. But the way you do the things you do for loyalty sounds somehow funny to the readers. How did you base your choice for a light, almost comic character? And how do you think it blends to the goals you think you must do?
Hiromitsu: Well, I try to stir things up. And if I have to use jokes, puns or polemic, I will. This is a great forum and all players so far are really nice. I believe that we could to a great story. I don't mind be the worst bushi around (someone has to be) or the guy that others look from above. I know I'm not the most awesome character ever created, the most original thing after round wheels. I hope not to spoil the fun of other players, to respect their characters (as much as possible) and to write cool threads to everyone.
Mitsouko: Be sat in the throne is probably the most daring thing since Shoju camped in Toshi Ranbo. How do you feel dressed in green? Could you stick with those colors forever?
Hiromitsu: Well, I kinda like green, you know how hard is to blend in with RED?! Yes, I could get used to this outfit.
Mitsouko: Everyone seems to love your True Stories. Tell me a little about the process of making it.
Hiromitsu: To be honest, the first one came after a big communication fail with the Scorpion. I was so frustrated and felt like I would never be able to play in this forum I decided to make something fun to the ones who felt like me.
About the making: It kinda depends in how the RP goes, I take the avatars from tektek, org, use some Photoshop magic, And it's done. A True Story (they say an image worth a thousand words, right?) usually takes from 4 to 6 hours. To organize the comics, make the story with a nice flow and try to deliver the joke is harder than it seems.
Mitsouko: You are doing a good job in it. Really! Congratz!
Hiromitsu: Thank you, you're too kind.
Mitsouko: Two more to finish: Tell us the characters you loved to interact and the ones you wish to.
Hiromitsu: Everyone who ever said that cheer me up about making new comics or who can separate character from player can make my boat float.
Asahina Yukihime, the one who helped me in my first story, that helped to me enter the RP in Toshi Ranbo. She let me "borrow" the letter.
Bayushi Haruka: When I believe no one would have the courage to try something new, she came and helped me. In a very nice and kind way I believe we have done a great duel. It was thrilling.
Bayushi Senshi: He does not really RP with me, but he always reads my comics or tries to help my idiotic ideas.
Doji Naetaru as also incredibly nice and polite, I wish to RP more with him again.
Tamor Manji, Who always tries to avoid any thread that I am on. Always.
Mitsouko: I must admit I do it too… But I dream in be pictured in a True Story! Now, the last one: Hiromitsu is loved/hated for the crazy plans he produces. I know normally he gets the void inspiration or something else, but tell us a crazy plan Hiromitsu already had and for some reason was not come true
Hiromitsu: Nope. I don't plan. I just improvise with what the fortunes give me.
Mitsouko: Thank you very much Hiromitsu-tono, the man on the throne. We are looking further to follow more of your adventures in Rokugan... And really hope you escape from this alive.
