An attendant makes its way to the Doji daimyo when an opening presents itself. She bows very low to him as she hands him a parcel wrapped in bright jade green silk. There is also a letter marked with the seal of the Tamori daimyo. She bows again to the Doji daimyo before excusing himself.
Opening the parcel would let out the fragrant smell of tea leaves. Iron Benten. A blend rarely found outside of the Dragon lands.
The letter reads:
Most esteemed Doji-sama,
I hope all is well with you and your clan. It has been quite long since we had last shared tea. I send to you a gift of tea from my personal garden at Shiro Tamori. Do enjoy it.
I regret though that tea between us will have to wait. Duty calls. Kaneka is on my tail.
I have full faith that we can entrust the Emperor's safety in your hands.
Hoshi guide us all.

Naetaru watches as the servant hands him the package. He throws a smile as he motions one of his attendants to carry it.
"Ah! Tamori Koichi-sama, I remember our last talk and was looking forward into meeting him again." he said thoughtful then adressed the servant.
"Tell your master Tamori-sama that his gift will be taken at heart in honor to our friendship. The Crane Clan will seek that he and our Dragon allies aren't abandoned, as well as safeguard the his majesty, the august Emperor Hantei. Please send him this, in commemoration of our staunch support to our mutual cause." he gave the servant his fan.
"While not useful in war, it shall be a reminder of where we stand in the world." accompanying his gift with a smile.

Saiko gave a short laugh, and smiled at the young Isawa. "Why thank you, Isawa-san, I would love to join Shodai-sama. Tell me, does he enjoy fine sake?" The mischievous twinkle never left his eye, though there was a slight look of bright interest there now as well...

Hiraku bows slightly and then straightens. -It's a pleasure to meet you Kakita Mitsuoko-san and you too Quarin-san. I'm also happy to be able to participate in such an event... and possibly talk about a truce.
He turns to the gaijin - And our family is indeed well known for our knowledge of the past or the ability to sense and speak with the spirits of ancestors, Quarin-san. Some can even speak with souls from other clans or even the Kamis.

The Kakita daimyo smiled, pretending to ignore the Lion lapse, as the shugenja was clearly not a customary frequenter of courts. Her eyes ran to the events outside, where a group of Imperial children were playing Kemari. Her eyes caught a glimpse of something, though suddenly it wasn't there. Why her eyes showed the corruption and then it was gone? You saw that lovely girl? No? Stange, for a moment I saw... something strange around her... Uhn, nevermind. Well, can I invite you for a breath of pure air? Seems something wonderful is happening outside, as people is leaving to the gardens... I don't want miss a thing! she spoke to her two interlocutors. When Mitsouko turned, though, one of her attendants politely introduced Izutsu-san to her. Of course she wasn't interested in making a public display of her problems in the court, but managed a gracious smile, concealing her true intentions. Izutsu-san it's a true pleasure to make acquaintance of a dutiful Jade Magistrate.

Izutsu had learned nothing from his time here if not patience; he barely seemed to notice the time that passed while he awaited his introduction. Instead, his dark, scrutinizing gaze swept the hall, scanning at least every figure once. He thought he saw a disturbing visage at one point, but before he cold focus on it, the Kakita daimyo was speaking to him. He refocuses on her, and a small smile appears on his face.
"Greetings, Mitsouko-sama, I am Usagi Izutsu, regent of the Hare clan and jade magistrate. I trust you are finding your stay here enjoyable?" His piercing visage was focused fully on her now, but he decided that here was neither the time nor the place to discuss some of the rumors he had heard as of late.

And how is your lands doing? She led the small group to the external part of the court activities, for a light promenade by the splendid dusk. Let me introduce you to Quarin-san, a very versatile merchant coming from so far... I hope he have his share of fun and profit in this court halls... And also, Hiraku-san, from the Kitsu family. A pleasant and recent acquaintance as well. This is Usaji Izutsu, jade Magistrate and regent of Hare Clan. His scrutiny in her person didn't escape from Mitsouko's attention. A bit more of patience, she thought. And that only meant two possible things.... For a moment she stood admiring the amazing view of the sky, but turned to her guests: I ask you my dear companions, should we make this court a bit more funny? don' t you think we need a bit more of surprise and excitement? Mitsouko added a dramatic pause, then chuckled. Do you already heard about the "fan exchange game"?

Kaji briefly walked alongside the Kakita whilst he weaved a rapid route through the main hall.
"Thank you for your invitation, I will be sure to make time here at Winter Court so we can continue to debate philosophy over tea. I wish you a pleasant evening".
After a deep courteous bow Kaji wheeled off returning to Isawa Mitsuru who seemed to have finished his conversation with the important looking Doji. Upon his arrival he murmured,
"Kakita Battou. It could only be one of twenty females".
Mitsuru held Kaji's vacant glare allowing his brain an opportunity to collate the results of his brief mini brainstorm.
"Ah... will leave that for another day to think about. Mitsuru-san, it is such a shame there is no tournament here for the Shugenja of Rokugan to impress. Should we retire to the gardens and have a small competition of our own? I've been training a few beautiful spell combinations."

Mitsouko refused him. He knew of tradition of refusing a gift three times. And suddenly Quarim was tired of it all. His heritage, the Yodotai invasion, the Kolat. He was tired of playing by everyone's rules. He wanted things to be simple. Was giving a gift supposed to be so absurdly difficult?
He followed Mitsouko outside absentmindedly. Others were talking but he was too focused on his own thoughts to care what was said. Finally he decided he was done playing by others rules. They would have to play by his.
Mitsouko was talking about some game seeming to have forgotten the gift process which was perfect. Quarim took her hand in his and slipped the bracelet over it without asking.
Without letting go of her hand he leaned in very close (enough to cause some gossip), and whispered in her ear "You are a Crane. You dictate what is not only acceptable but popular. Use that power now. Many will be looking for weakness in you following your ordeal. Show them your strength."

They wandered to where the void master stood awaiting them, and Saiko waited, allowing the Crane to exchange courtesies while he produced enough small cups for all of them, and by the time that someone noticed what he was doing, he had set the all on a table, produced a bottle of sake from his robes and filled them, a small smile on his face.
"Greetings, Shodai-sama, I am Mirumoto Saiko. People speak of your power in every corner of the Empire that I have had the pleasure to visit. Shall we share a drink in honor of this prestigious occasion we gather for?" He picks up his own cup, smiling widely and bowing before the Void master, his eyes passive and devoid of emotion.

Mitsouko pretended to ignore the gift suddenly in her wrist, but murmured Thank you, Quarim-san. It's lovely. Though the public touch of a non-relative was per se a bit scandalous, something inside her, enjoyed the idea of some rumor to spice up the always tedious and framed Winter Court. So much Mitsouko forgot to use her fan to hide a laugh.
Indeed? I am the less skilled lady in this court about fashion and trends, believe me. Though, about the fan's exchange... the Kakita daimyo shut her own fan and put it on Quarin's hand. We exchange fans and present it to other people. Soon everybody will be exchanging their fans. Tomorrow, though, we will be looking for our fans through the court and meeting more yet unknown people... An excellent pretext to introduce ourselves to people we wish to make acquaintance of!
And... you have a wide comprehension of some of our courtly customs Quarim-san... I am impressed.
Though, Quarim and maybe her other companions were too close to leave unnoticed she wasn't really feeling good, though she tried to conceal it. She seemed nauseated or such.

While following Shodai's Retainer Chad caught a glimpse of Kakita Mitsouko talking with the Hare Clan Regent. Perfect. Now I just need the time.
He Bows even to Shodai, one of the Few of Equal Status here.
"Greetings again, Shodai-san. I am glad to meet with you in a more subdued setting. Mitsouko-sama speaks often of you, and well." He let his gaze shift toward where the Lady of the Kakita was standing and saw Quarim slip the braclet on her hand. Bold Man, any number of samurai here could take his head for that action. He supposed at some point he would need to Talk to the Gaijin. If nothing else then to determine what he was really doing on a Mantis boat if he ran an overland Caravan.

The boldness of the gaijin was almost enough to make Izutsu stop in his tracks. His eyes grew wide as he saw the ripple of shock spread throughout the crowd, though perhaps the most surprising was Mitsouko's reaction. Apart from being embarrassed, she seemed to not even notice the breach of etiquette, and so Izutsu seemed to pay it no mind. He had other things he needed to take care of anyway...
Izutsu walked and talked for a short time, exchanging pleasantries and maintaining conversation, though his attention was focused elsewhere. He dropped lines here and there, leading the conversation this way and that, never really allowing it to get serious, but always watching the reactions of the Kakita daimyo. After a little while, he stopped, a look of concern on his face.
"Mitsouko-sama, you do not look well. Would you care to get some fresh air with me? I had a matter I wished to discuss you anyway, and the brisk winter air will do you good, I think." He truly looked concerned to most, but a truly discerning man would see something else there; careful scrutiny, perhaps?
