Name: Kitsu Daisuke Age: 15 (had gempukku on his 12 birthday) Role: Child prodigy
Character description/personality: Daisuke is loud, joyfull, clumsy and generally still a kid. Whatever situation he is in he treats it as an adventure, but he can also be serious in situations that involve peoples lives (fighting/healing/court matters). Also: He always looks tired. Always.
Appearance: Daisuke is 4' 11", thin and totally couldn't be described as muscled. His face is hard to see as most of the time it is covered by his long, blonde hair that seems to have their own life. If someone does see it the first thing to notice is his orange eyes, a rather unusual color in Rokugan. Next would probably be a small vertical scar that comes across his eyebrow. His skin is light and full of small bruises he gets from bumping into other people or his surrounding. He usually dresses in a simple kimono that doesn't constrict his movement, but he wears an extremely ornamented on when in courts.
History: As a baby he was found near a lake, during a stormy night, by his new father, a phoenix bushi. Because of his looks it was easy to see that he was a Kitsu and an investigation was soon started by a Lion magistrate to find whose child he was and where his parents were but sadly he couldn't find anything. An agreement was made (because his new parents really loved him) that he could grow up in the land of Phoenix if he would get the needed education from a Kitsu teacher.
Thus he grew up with the knowledge and customs of Lion and Phoenix , showing great skill in the art of speaking with kamis and magic. He was even a center of a small scandal as both clans shugenja schools wanted him to choose one and he chose the Kitsu, putting his father in some trouble.
After returning to Lion lands he got comatose when he first came to the Kitsu tombs. After he woke up it turned out it was the effect of the shock from suddenly hearing the voices of all of his ancestors. It was also then that he learned his real parents were murdered by tainted samurai.
Right now Daisuke is travelling through Rokugan, learning, teaching, making acquaintances and looking for his place in the world.
Spouse: None
What he achieved: Fought battles with the Yobanjin, became a Tensai, visited Reihado Shinsei, made allies and enemies in the courts and secret organisations. Earned and spent a small fortune.

Name: Bayushi Kyoji
School Attended: Bayushi Courtier
Sex: Male
Age: 28
Physical descirption: Kyoji is a medium heighted young man, weighing no more than 120 lbs. Piercing brown eyes seem to suggest that he knows your deepest, darkest secrets, even just at a glance. His face is smooth, delicate, and perfectly symmetrical, treated carefully to ensure that if there were ever an imperfection, no one would ever know. Raven black hair drapes down his head, reaching the swell of his back before it finally ends.
Occupations: Courtier, Diplomat, purveyor of guilty pleasures
Attitude and Actions: Kyoji is a calm, calculating man. He never makes a move without considering the long term first, and seems to always be thinking, no matter what. Despite this, he carries a warm smile no matter what, and is a rather inviting individual. After all he's not like all the other scorpion... right?
Kyoji seems to have a strange habit of pushing some hair behind his ears, as it seems to incessantly try to get in the way of his face. Some women have sworn that they've managed to catch a bit more skin than what's proper as he has done this... but really, would the young Scorpion purposefully do something so scandalous?
Clothes and Items: Kyoji wears only the finest of Haori, Hakama, and Kimono. Elaborate patterns always seem to adorn his attire, and the mons of his clan tend to feel understated by the comparison. The striking thing, however, is not the mask he wears... but rather the fact that he wears none. Kyoji's bare face is always clear as day for anyone to see, perhaps lending to that air of trustworthiness about him. He carries an ornate wakizashi in his obi, and no less than five fans somewhere on his person at all times.
Noticeable advantages: Perceived Honor (8 points), Dangerous Beauty (2 points), Benten's Blessing (4 points)
Noticeable disadvantages: Contrary (4 points), Insensitive (3 points)

I was under the impression that a scorpion not wearing his mask was like not having his mon. I heard stories of scorpion who became ronin just by taking it off, is this incorrect?

Well AEG does sometimes play fast and loose with the rules, some Scorpion take the whole mask thing to a philosophical level. Not wearing a physical one but an emotional or mental one.

Shosuro Maru is also a famous case of a Scorpion who did not wear a mask. Trust me, there's a reason for it. Also, Yojiro for a long time didn't really wear a mask. He just had his sleeves a little higher as a 'nod' to the tradition.

Most scorpion wear a "mask" of some sorts. This could range from a small strand across the face to a full fledged mempo, but not all scorpion wear a 'real' mask.
As others have mentioned, there are times and people who wore no mask. Kachiko continued her maskless ways (from what I can tell) upon her arrival back to Rokugan after Exile.
I will see if I can find my super old school scorp book. I know that there was a page or two in there about masks.

The mask is similar to the white haired Crane. It is the normal, but by no means universal. I think the Jushin wear no masks.

Name: Genko
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 160#
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Black, usually close-cropped. Currently has a small goatee. (more of a soul patch, really)
Sex: Male
Appearance: Often quiet, but with an intensity to his eyes. Some tattoos are visible peeking out at his cuffs and color, but they appear non-magical; perhaps criminal in nature.
Genko is typically attired for social settings in a simple grey kimono, with silvery webwork designs worked into it. No mon are worn. When traveling, or expecting conflict, Genko dons a suit of glossy black heavy armor, laced in greys and silvers. Again, when traveling, Genko often dons the cowl of a sohei. Genko appears proficient in a dazzling array of combat, but seems partial to the naginata and the bow.
Personality: Very polite, but there is a hardness to his manners that suggests the life of a bushi.
History: Genko was once a member of a Great Clan. He will not discuss which clan, or the circumstances of his leaving it. He is a ronin, and a member of the ronin band known as the Spider. Genko has been seen studying both swordsmanship and the Tao in Reihado Shinsei. He has recently been present in Dragon Guard City, battling bandits and returning peasants to safety.

Name: Isawa Iada Age: 21 Height: 4'11" Build: Lean, with most of her strength in her legs. Hair: Short, dark, and unkempt. Eyes: Grey
Iada is very bookish and very studious. She discovered a love of knowledge at a very young age. Her interest in the Kami and spellcraft followed not long after. Most of her studying was done with the Tensai in the City of Tears, but she has studied many other places, seeking knowledge wherever she can obtain it honorably. Although it is in no way her main focus, she is not afraid of combat, despite her small frame. She serves wherever she feels useful.

Name: Yoritomo Akihiko
School: Yoritomo Bushi
Age: 20 [character age, not me]
Sex: Male
Hair: Long black; tied to a pony-tail with a scrap of silk. Small soul-patch on chin. No moustache.
Eyes: Green
Ht: 5'9"
Wt: 160; lithe, muscular build
Appearance: Scarred hands of a bushi, with skin tanned from time at sea. Unless at war or traveling, he is very well-groomed. Much of his body is tattooed; stops at the wrists, ankles, and neck. The designs do not appear magical.
Personality: Quick to smile; slow to anger, but when roused, his fury is intimidating. Fond of poetry and art. Went through a period of carousing with the underworld, but he has put that behind him.
Background: Born to a ronin mother and father, Akihiko grew up in the Ryoko Owari. His father disappeared when Akihiko was around 10; he doesn't know what happened, and barely remembers him.
He was raised by his ronin mother, who taught him strict adherence to bushido. He was raised to believe that bushido was the only thing separating ronin from mere bandits.
At about 14 years old, his mother was approached by the Mantis, and invited to rejoin. Apparently, his mother and father had been Mantis, made ronin for some reason, and she was now welcome back. She was married to a Yoritomo courtier, notorious for his wealth and lack of scruples. Akihiko was given the Yoritomo name once more.
He was raised from 15 on to be a Yoritomo bushi. Akihiko has never forgotten his mother's lessons on bushido.

So, you've met a fellow going by the name of Togashi Enishi? Shifty one I assume, neh? I happen to have met one too some time ago. I know this sounds funny, but I'd rather err on the side of caution when speaking about that peculiar name. You see, I have a hunch there isn't a Togashi Enishi. I've done some inquiring about this, too.
The name comes up from time to time in all sorts of different places in the Empire. I've met mine in Mantis courts during the trade route discussion, but I've heard about one investigating the opium rings in Ryoko Owari, one on the Wall in Crab lands, and another one that supposedly was seen in the Shogun's tent during the early stages of the war against the Yobanjin. We all know the man has a poor choice of advisors though... Possibly as interesting, a Dragon named Mirumoto Enishi performed quite well in the kenjutsu tournament of last year's Topaz Championship, but he embarked on a musha shugyo soon after. I've even heard from the Kasuga of a tattooed yakuza claiming a similar name. Descriptions may or may not match.
For that's the interesting point: not all those Togashi Enishi look like the same person. Sometimes it's a stern bushi in simple armor, sometimes a dashing magistrate in lavish kimono, and sometimes an smiling monk in humble robes. He's supposed to be proficient in the Niten technique as well as capable of wondrous kiho. Facial features change from one testimony to another. The only permanent details are as follow: athletic built, brown hair, scorpion tattooed on left shoulder.
Besides, the man has travelled all over the Empire, to the point that if he really existed he would be spending his whole life on the roads. He's been seen in all kinds of situations, on the battlefield, in the courts of the great clans, in temples and seedy back alleys. There are stories of him doing quite glorious things, and other less savoury as well, but it seems logical that had he done these things he would be far more well-known than he actually is. He seems to have friends everywhere, but I also know a few Kakitas who have taken a strong dislike to what they call "the Enishi cell".
I find part of their theories on the subject quite convincing. You see, I think there is a group of ise zumi in Dragon lands that have taken to using the name Togashi Enishi to play one of their nonsensical, supposedly enlightening game on us all. While I have discussed the topic with several of our Mirumoto contacts, they seem to have no problem with that, and I can attest that there are official papers bestowing various positions to a "Togashi Enishi". My Kakita friends have another, more sinister opinion: they have noticed that the name seems to appear quite often in Scorpion Lands, and think it's actually used by several Shosuro spies, à la Shosuro Furuyari. I think the tatto thing would be rather obvious, but then of course, Scorpions never lie so well than when they're telling you the truth...
So, in any case. I don't trust that man and I suggest you don't either.

Post by Isawa Okibi on May 10, 2011 19:14:46 GMT -5
Name: Isawa Okibi
Title/Occupations: Elemental Master of Earth Isawa Sensei Inquisitor (retired, sometimes called to temporary duties) Okibi spends much of his “free time” performing magical research and teaching at the Isawa schools & libraries. In the recent peaceful past he has been in charge of a group of students and acolytes studying & preserving artifacts from the old libraries. Age: Old (easily 50+, doesn’t say and there strangely aren’t many records to indicate his age)
Personality: Although often stubborn and irritable, Okibi is oddly non-traditional for someone of his age. He claims to have traveled widely in his life, and this is sometimes evidenced in his strange expressions and customs often lacking in Rokugani etiquette.
Appearance: Okibi is not terribly tall and of average build. His eyes are pale brown. While he is mostly bald his remaining hair is dark grey. However his skin is unusually young looking, but pale, unnaturally ashen and almost granite in appearance. He rarely makes public appearances, but when at formal occasions he often wears a gilt white Tengu mask (see icon). When investigating in public he wears a noh mask made of white stone (jade). Generally Okibi wears Yellow or Orange robes or similar, with the quality reflecting the occasion. Only at Council, in private or teaching is his complexion apparent. Even then his left hand is always bound as if injured. The only physical weapons Okibi has been seen with are a strange short crystalline blade (wakizashi length).
Family: Little is known of his family, other than that his father was an Isawa and his mother is unknown. There are rumors that he once had a wife and child, but they too are unknown.
History: In the past Isawa Okibi served as an Inquisitor, and as a result much of this past is shrouded. However for the last decade he has been retired from this role, and has spent much of his time at the Kyuden Isawa teaching and researching, mostly ancient magical artifacts and manuscripts. When the Master of Earth retired a few years ago Okibi was appointed to his role, which he felt honor bound to accept despite the political interruptions it brought to him.
