The judges finally decided after some discussion. It had grew heated at times. It had also taken long than expected. Yushahime had initially favoured the Tortoise Clan member called Kasuga. Ren had leaned towards Hyuu. Ichigo had thought highly of Kenpachi and Ichiro. The pros and cons of each of these noticeably superior contestants was bandied about and their performance analysed. After nearly 2 hours the judges made their decision. Yushahime doubted if there would be anyone left in the room of contests.
The judges assembled once again in the hall. It was clear now and tidy again. The servants had done their job. Only a handful of samurai and a single shugenja had stayed close by. Announcements were sent for participants and observers to return if they wished to hear the results. This took even more time. Yushahime crossed her arms as it passed. She could not mingle again until this job was complete. Otomo Ichigo made the necessary arrangements for the prize to be brought in.
Inexplicitly Otomo-Ren then had a bushi attendant dart in with hastied footsteps and whisper a message into his ear. He left shortly after with his apologies, leaving Ichigo in charge. He looked apprehensive - usually he deferred to Ren. Yushahime knew what she had to do. She offered to make the announcement and Otomo-Ichigo, as one of the hosts and organisers, would present the prize. He had agreed with a large smile.
When all was ready she went to the centre of the room that had the painting and the small crowd quietened down. Her lips rose as she noticed some of the competitors standing close to others they had dueled with only hours ago. Truly that was the real prize. She'd let them realise that themselves.
"Thank you all for returning and once again thank you all for taking part. We hope you enjoyed yourselves. For those observing, we hope the game of Sadane was to your liking. As you all doubt know the Winter Court closes tomorrow. We pray this has left a positive final memory for everyone here. We humbly beesech the kami for safe journeys for you all and the strength to press onwards in the rough times ahead"
Yushahime bows formally to everyone and then rises. She begins again with a large smile
"Now for the prize giving. This was a most difficult decision. This much is obvious with the delay in proceedings. You all performed excently and for the most part the true spirit of Sadane was observed. We are grateful for this. On behalf of the Winter Court, one would like to announce that the winner of the Sadane competition held earlier this evening was... Toku Kenpachi"
Yushahime singles him out from the crowd and bows towards him before the audience all nod at him or otherwise praise him.
Moments later she raises her hands for silence and then gestures to Otomo-Ichigo. "Unfortunately Ren-sama is not able to be here but the honourable Ichigo-sama would like to present this prize and gift to Kenpachi-sama for his excellent wisdom, wits and words. He is an example to us all in how to rationally think for oneself, handle the criticism of others while making them aware of their own faults"
Ichigo walks over to Kenpachi holding a tray covered in a fine silk cloth of silver, blues and greens - snow falling in a valley. The cloth is raised in parts and definately obscuring something. It looks like one large circular items and some smaller items too. A few crowd members whisper over what it may be with eyes growing in envy.
"Kenpachi-san, thank you very much for your performance tonight". A servant comes over to hold the cloth as Ichigo continues "Please accept this prize. This silk cloth was created by our own artisans and has been blessed by our monks. We hope it will protect whatever you place within it."
The servant lifts off the cloth and knees down to offer it to Kenpachi. The tray is revealed to hold an extremely elegant and artistic tea set, including a pot and 4 cups of differing design as well as a mixer with a jade tipped handle.
As Kenpachi receives this, Ichigo conclues "we Dearly hope you will also enjoy this tea set. Tea invigorates us and keeps us sharp for courtly matters. We would not suggest you need more of an advantage but has it not been accepted that any advantage should be taken to achieve victory?!" Ichigo laughs and winks in jest "We believe this tea set will help you enjoy tea very much while reminding you of your past achievements. We also hope it reminds you of our hospitality and the elegant culture of the Empire!" He proclaims this with pleasure but the lines sound somewhat rehearsed. Nonetheless there is a sound of approval from the audience. He dips his head as he hands the tray to Kenpachi. Kenpachi will also notice the tray is finely lacquered. He may be surprised he was selected even though he is not from a great Clan and is hopefully delighted at the prize.
Ichigo steps back and the servant departs. Yushahime and him thank everyone for their time. They ask everyone to dwell on the advice "Every moment has a lesson for you to learn. Learn to listen". They then bow to signal the end of the prize ceremony and begin to clear the room.
(ooc: I hope you all liked the Sadane competition! Please do respond to this. Especially you Kenpachi! Well done!)
