I have now spent the better part of 2 months at Mountain Watch Keep, what began as a simple incursion of the white man has become a full fledged war. There are simply too many stories to tell of the heroism I've seen in these past 2 months, sworn enemies protecting each other against the hoards, men standing alone against the onslaught surrounded on all sides, holding the gates against literal walls of bodies. It is unfathomable, without actually seeing it. I've done my best to participate in the events outside the walls, having sent 40 of my best Court Attendants to the Imperial City to request immediate help, though I'm told they turned the Shogun against me for saying that he needed greater haste, rather than waste time trying to build an army and marching with so many flags that the very task of fighting the wind to arrive is as great as fighting the army before us. He is the Shogun, he should know that all he has to do is arrive, and the armies and Samurai would already be here. But I digress, if he wants that I am his enemy, then so be it. He has not made an enemy of me, he has simply chosen to call me one.
During the war, I've sent 40 Librarians who had been documenting the events over to seek out knowledge of these supposed-barbarians. I do not think they are barbarians at all, just.... different. With my 5 Kuroiban Advisors, I have reached the conclusion that whatever this is, it is more than just an incursion, I have eyewitness reports that one of our own is somehow instigating these peoples into a war. While this seems a tool that the Scorpion might use in their efforts to keep the Empire united against a foe, and thus stronger instead of inner fighting, I also suspect this rather new clan of Spider. They are as, or more, foreign to me than the white tribes we now battle.
Meanwhile, since I am unable to attend, I have asked that the many Recruits I find in excess (90) join in the efforts of getting the army of the Shogun over here, despite his seeming hatred for me. They are joined by the 40 Warrior Monks of the Dragon Mountain that I keep in my stead.
As for the fight itself, we have been very successful, and although the armies I lend to the Daimyo of Mountain Watch Keep have taken heavy casualties, the elite force I've built to work behind enemy lines has taken out several leaders and given me chance to further investigate the events that have unfolded. Together I ride the winds with the brothers Miya Toshi and Miya Tago, twin Tao Archers who have devoted themselves to me for some reason. With the help of Shiba Totoni, my personal Yojimbo, and the 3 Air Masters (Phoenix Inquisitors), as well as a personal... friend (Friendly Kamo), we have many times... more times than I can recall, raided behind enemy lines, riding in the winds unseen to land amidst the leaders of these armies. Our raids have started to become stories of ghosts and legend, but I try not to let this cause too much pride. I fear that I may become careless if I let the Glory of our events spread to my head.
I've had to send Usagi Yojimbo and various allies out to recruit more Shugenjas from the Mantis lands to help hold the walls, the magic here is insufficient with the most powerful Shugenjas being used for more direct combat scenarios. As a matter of fact, I should make sure to Glorify Usagi Yojimbo further, he's been invaluable in many respects as he's always the one I send out to gather intelligence of the lands and to know where to send my entourage. He's recently reported to me that the Dragonfly would rather celebrate their new home, which we've donated nicely towards, than join us on the walls. This has me more than a little perturbed, and finally I understand why the Crab have hard emotions against the other clans as we all run around attending court events while they protect the walls to the southwest of the empire. As such, I'm forcing myself to control any distaste I have for these events, and may send Usagi Yojimbo on my stead as I battle at the walls. My court attendants have little to do here, and they could use the break since I want nothing to do with the decision between the Kakita Daimyo and the Shogun.
OOC: While I don't particularly care if I get to advise the Shogun, just wanted to make it clear that my voting 'both ways' had little to do with getting 2 rings. It was because I was indifferent either way, since my own army would already be there, and doing both missions (and thus gaining the 6 rings I got) or not doing either, both showed the same level of indifference, just one got me rings. While I may seem 'low' on my rings for my level, it's only because I have a TON of low-fate missions I haven't even started so that I can continue doing the story-driven missions instead. I actually think it's kinda cool that I have the Shogun as an enemy. I have ALL the story missions at Emerald level completion, well, except the Heroic Opportunity ones and that one I only took to Jade because I didn't want to waste 50 of those flags plus enough flags to get the 100ish Medium Infantry needed for it. That includes Emerald to Ride and March under the Shogun.
Note: The main reason I posted this was to demonstrate how I see the game. Again, not caring that I'm the Shogun's enemy, but either he's the slowest creature in the game, or we can/should assume that us flying around the game-world doing missions all over at the same time isn't actually our 1 character, but rather, parts of our Entourage that are performing tasks while we are elsewhere. Agasha Taeshik wasn't even in the court when Shogun decided he was the enemy (at least, in my story). Though, I am curious just how many "enemies" he decided to have on that day.
