Warai walked firmly through the encampment, seemingly unperturbed by the howling winds, heading directly for the large tent that was serving as the temporary headquarters for the Badger Clan Champion, his command staff, and generals from the Dragonfly, Hare, and Ox clans. He had dismissed those few of his clan, previously assigned to these forces, who had arrived to greet him, telling them to take the opportunity granted by his temporary presence to rest, pray, and meditate while he was here to attend to the assembled general's needs. The rest of the assembled forces seemed to instinctively know who he was (or perhaps word of his arrival had spread faster than he had anticipated) and all bowed low as he walked silently past them. Finally, a bowing Badger guard opened the flap to the command tent before him...
(OOC: This is for RP involving the new mission. While technically, only Warai, and the Badger, Dragonfly, Hare, and Ox are really represented, others should feel free to join either as npc messengers of the Great Clans or Shogun (ie. not your primary character) or as an npc of one of the Generals from the four clans mentioned.

As the flap opened, welcoming the Bat clan champion, Ichiro Kojuri stood up and gave a bow.
'I was wondering when will the minor clan alliance will come to a consensus about the yobanjin threat.' the Badger clan champion grinned widely.
'It took a while before I got really a response after sending a courtier to lobby for a unified assault of the clan alliance and support Kaneka. I would have gone personally to the courts if not these blasted outsiders always knocking the Badger's front door.'
'Any news Warai-san?', as Ichiro Kojuri studied the maps that lay in front of him once again.
'Am still waiting for a response from Kaneka himself, sent out a courier, if we are to join his main army.'

I've already established that we have a fair amount of force in the area, Sanjuro-sama.Several hundred samurai, not to mention the small force I was personally leading before the recent troubles at home. Toku Nakata is directing our forces there. There is also the third magistrate department acting as scouts, the first and second departments are being used to bolster the lack of magistrates the levies have caused in the other Minor Clans. We may be doing more for the homefront than the battlefield, but that does not mean we are not there. If you require the full Toku commentment to the battlefield, I have the requsition records avalible.

'The support of the Monkey clan is always appreciated, Toku-san. It is obvious that we should not leave our homes without adequate defense, the rest of our armies should be allocated to this campaign. In order to show Kaneka and the other clans that we are in full support.'
'The rest is our course of action after a simple yes or no answer from Kaneka. If he is willing to merge our armies into his then I will be following his direct command.' Ichiro Kojuri moved a colored marker from the map on the table to include it to several colored markers bundled together.
'If not, then another yes and no answer. Are we still going to support him after his rejection? A no would mean that we will be seeing our families sooner than expected. A yes means that we will still support his campaign and plan our own assault on the yobanjin.' Ichiro Kojuri moved the colored marker again back to its former place.
'My apologies to you all if I am blunt on these matters but we should be prepared to have answers on the obvious questions. Now if we will not be merging with Kaneka's army and plan our own assault then I suggest that we help him by doing a flanking maneuver and go through the direct route to the northern steppes from the Badger's land.' Ichiro Kojuri moved the colored maker once again.
'This route is extremely tough even for us Badger's for the roads are not accessible to hold a large army such as these. It will be a very slow process.'

I have heard no word from Kaneka as yet, so it would seem prudent to proceed in supporting his forces without his direct command until we hear otherwise. Your flanking plan seems a logical course, though I would suggest that speed is of the essence and therefore using our forces to flank the Yobanjin forces already in battle with those of the Shogun at Mountain Watch Keep, rather than marching into the Northern Steppes, would grant the advantage of speed that we need as well as showing the Shogun our worth and gaining his notice.
Turning to Kenpachi, Indeed the aid of the Monkey has been most generous and is always welcome. I wonder though, have you received word as to whether your clan will be able to marshal sufficient additional forces to join the Alliance forces supporting the Emerald Champion's relief army? It is, after all, vital that the Alliance show our devotion to the will of the Emperor and well being of the Empire by supporting both leaders at this time. That being the case, the gathering Oriole, Sparrow, and Tortoise will need the strength of the Monkey with them, lest our fledgling alliance be viewed as taking sides against one of the Emperor's favored servants.
Turning back to the group as a whole, On that matter, have the promised Hare reinforcements arrived? I had last heard that they were en-rout.
ooc: I suggest that given the lack of active Hare play, we just make up a number and say that they have. Perhaps, Sanjuro, you would like to play the part of the Hare general (NPC) just arriving?

The 3rd division will be joining the Emerald Champion. That will leave us with the bulk of the first army and the reserves of the second army for homefront duty as well as reenforcements if it is needed. We are currently being given ashigaru from other lands as the Monkey commoners are not exactly numerous. As it stands, we have sent more forces to the Emerald Magistrate. The Monkey has always had good relations with them, many of our own serve under him directly, more so per capita than any other clan. Our rallying to his call is only natural. There are debates for the bolstering of Monkey forces at the current battlefield, but I will leave it to our esteemed commander, Ichiro-san to say if they are needed.
OOC: Also, be aware that we don't actually need to be there in person. The Shugenja are more than caipable of casting communication spells over long distances. Kenpachi is actually speaking through a Fuzake Shugenja using a water spell to relay his messages, while a Toku Shugenja reads messages from his countepart. It keeps everyone in the loop.

‘The courier I sent to relay a message to Kaneka has arrived and bear news that the Shogun is so preoccupied in directing his forces in the ensuing war to convey a response to my inquiry.’
‘The enemy of the empire is the enemy of every Rokugani. We will show these yobanjin how to fear every clan of the empire, great or small. We will also show the great clans of the ferocity of a unified army of the minor clans.’
‘Commanders!, please tell your respective army that we will depart immediately for Mountain Watch Keep.’

Good, all seems to be in readiness for..... Warai stares blankly for a moment. Ah, excellent! I have just received word from the young priest I had sent to the Hare, that they are arriving with two divisions of light infantry and a division of scouts.
That being the case, I will leave you to lead the forces assembled here to relieve the Shogun. Of course, unless you have found them less than fit to the task, I will leave the priests and priestesses already with your forces to aid your coordination efforts in the heat of battle.
Until I see your victorious banners next, may the blessings of the Kami be upon you all.
ooc: Sanjuro, if it fits with your character's timeline to be at this meeting or using Kenpachi's method, then go for it, though at this point you may want to edit you previous posts to reflect what he was doing.
Kenpachi, yes, that makes more sense. It was the intended use of the Shugenja that I sent to all the forces after all, and only makes sense that the Monkey would be using some of there own for the same purpose.

So this is what the edge of the world looks like I thought to myself. I sat atop my horse overlooking a summit. The war camp assembling to move to join the Shoguns ranks. I caught word of this after leaving the Scorpion Lands. Needless to say one major boon owed to the Scorpion later, and promising to marry a Shosuro wife to my yojimbo Kawada I have received the cure for Kakita Mitsouko. On my back to return I have recived a letter sent by Mitsouko of a cure to her condition. Thank the Fortunes for that! Whoever was responsable for this I would thank them in person. I also recieved word from my aunt and grandmother requesting I personally go to this War Council. I knew it was my duty to be here, and politicaly it was good for the Monkey to have their Champion here. I haven't gotten to meet and know really my fellow members of the Minor Clan Alliance. I felt out of place slightly since a majority of our troops were patroling the roads of Rokugan, and defending holdings of the Minor Clan Alliance so they might be able to empty their barracks for this move. I was there with Toku Kawada, Toku Nakata, Daidoji Jun, and the finest garrison of battle ready scouts that we had to offer. Up until now I have been relativitly new to being a champion. I knew the men although they respected me haven't fought with me. This would be a sure test for my resolve and a opportunity to have the Monkey show all of Rokugan what they could do. I couldn't help but wonder where my beloved Mitsouko was and what was she doing. Was she looking into the same horizon I was? My chi was imbalanced My body was here but my spirit and mind were elsewhere with her. (Concentrate) I could hear Sensei Fuju saying in my head, (you will make a horrible husband if you are dead!). A steely resolve came over me.
"I cant believe you whored me out to the Scorpion!" Kawada said holding back a laugh. "I was hoping to hold out for Imperial Daimyo's Daughter. You know lord I have expensive tastes.".
"Well my old friend the two of you seemed to be getting along just fine. I meditated on it and I would think Benten would approve of the two of you. Besides I didn't see any displeasure on your face when the agreement was met." I couldn't help but smile wryly back at Kawada.
I saw Ichiro Kojuri move out of the tent. I hopped off my horse and approached. I bowed respectively keeping my bow down for several breaths. After all he was the decided general of the Minor Clan Alliance.
"Our scouts are in place ready for the signal to advance. What is the plan of attack Kojuri-san?" I kept my best political tone apparent, my aunt would be proud. I would hope to have a brotherly comradery with both clan champions by the time this was done.

Toku Nakata could best be discribed as grizzled. His bald head helped hide his age, but he should have retired five years ago. He stood outside the war tent with Fuzake Kai, his personal attendent. "Kenpachi-sama said we should be expecting Sanjuro-dono soon. We should prepare to brief him." Kai tapped Nakata on the shoulder and pointed to the distance were Sanjuro-dono and his yojimbo were walking to the tent. Kai handed Nakata a scroll.
As Sanjuro walked to the tent, Nakata walked to meet him. "Welcome to the front, my lord. I have a list of our avalible forces and thier connection with the Alliance's battlegroup. Kenpachi-sama also asked us to remain with you. He mentioned the need for approval on a few items. Kai-san is an excellent shugenja and will be able to relay any messages you have back to Toku Torid-e."

I bowed of equal breaths to the Monkey clan champion.
"The plan of attack is...to kill more yobanjin!", I suddenly burst into horrible laughter. I was actually in high spirits but after a few seconds I regained composure for I see the seriousness in the Monkey clan champion's eyes.
"My apologies Sanjuro-san. I am just feeling ecstatic of soon having more yobanjin death count than my father."
"Our unified armies will march to the border of Mountain Watch Keep to meet the divisions of the Hare there. Then soon after march directly to bolster the Shogun's forces there. But we will not merge with his army because we will arrive in a different direction. Flanking our enemies on the existing battle there." I looked over the horizon.
"When our armies arrive at the battlefield, our cavalry units will charge first followed by our infantries. Our archers will provide protection for our shugenjas. Their arrows shall not be used amidst the chaos of battle. Our spellcasters will provide whatever offensive capabilities they have and most especially as healers."
"Commanders, if our armies are ready...we march!"

"I like your plan, Ichiro-sama." Nakata said quietly. "Perhaps we can make it into a battle cry. Imagine a thousand voices screaming that. A pity the gaijin don't speak a civilized langauge, I'm sure they'd enjoy it."
"Sanjuro-dono, the men are mustered. Perhaps you would like to speak to them before our march? Kenpachi'-sama's force reached the front and has suffered heavy losses. I think he did something to offend the Shogun. They seem to be sent to the front again and again." Nakata turned around looking for anyone who might overhear. "The Shogun is an excellent commander and an honorable man, but he feels he has something to prove. He's running roughshed over those who disagree with him, and with little diplomacy."

Warai exited the command tent shortly after Kojuri, Nakata, and Kai. Seeing the Monkey Champion approach, he gave a fluid bow.
Toku Sanjuro-san, I am glad that we finally have the opportunity to meet, though am sad that it must be a brief greeting as I am required elsewhere. Has the priest I sent to support your own shugenja in communications between your units arrived, and have they met with your approval?
Turning briefly to Kojuri, Oh, that reminds me, while it is true that the priests and priestesses who's aid I have lent you are primarily to aid in communication and healing, it is my understand that the Yobanjin often use great winged beasts that are nearly invulnerable to both arms and prayers. Should you encounter one or more of these in the midst of battle, I suggest pointing it out to the Bat among your ranks. They have been instructed on what to do. Suffice to say, have you ever seen what happens to a bird foolish enough to attempt to fly in a typhoon?
Returning his attention back to Sanjuro, It is my understanding that the Monkey already fighting in this region have been most valiant. I suspect that they will continue to provide such a shining example in the days to come. Perhaps we will have opportunity to discuss the valor of all the Clans over tea someday when things are less... interesting...
