The random encounter can happen at anytime if you're in the Mountain Watch Keep area. Even clicking between pages can sometimes trigger it. Also completing the cavalry charge can also reward you with a heavy cavalry in return. Only 3 clicks to the first mastery!
Also I went to Mountain Watch Keep and all I got was this lousy: brilliant victory (1) "Those who cannot record histories are forced to make them." -Kitsu Motso

The fact of the matter is that it's a great anti-power gamer device. You can't have your cake and eat it to. Like any other game, you can't join both sides that turn against each other and because of it, there have been clear cuts now. I'm sure there will be various Anti-Shogun stuff to do, so relax. It's not the end of the world.

Moyotoshi I don't know... This anti-Kaneka plot sounds like it has the makings of also being awesome. I'd be very surprised if there wasn't more coming down the pipe for those who've chosen to defy the Shogun.

Well if that one is going to be all infmy and dishonor I'm out. I hope there will be political ways to this plot.

Honor loss concerns me little. As for infamy, that's only if you get caught. Plot against the Shogun gave no infamy after all. Just because he's the Shogun, does not make him immune from political backlash. After all, he's just a man, and men have faults.

Thanks for all the new actions, Jay-sama. This battle's gonna be epic and will be remembered for centuries by historians and bards.
By any chance, is there a possibility we see new recruiting actions in Unicorn lands? I have lots of Unicorn mons and favors, but all jobs are Emerald level already. I would gladly use a new way to spend them. :-)

Jay-sama
I would respectfully wish to provide some feedback regarding the new missions from the Battle of Mountain Watch Keep.
First, The Calvary Charge mission, while only a 3 step master mission, required Heavy Cavalry as a cost item, which could only be gained as a single mastery drop whe riding with the Shogun. I was fortunate enough to have the first attempt at the Cavalry Charge provide me with another heavy cav as a drop, but my second one did not, so I am now stuck at 66% for this mission.
Additionally, Heroic Opportunities are hard to come by, even in the best of circumstances. Even before the shogun arrived, I had only maanged to acquire enough of them to master 2 of the 3 mission that required them. Now with "Infantry Charge" and "Cavalry Charge" requiring them, and the fact that it appears that only "Battle the Yobanjin" drops them at a rate of 10%-20%. Combine that with the fact that the Fight Yobanjin General Mission requires 3 Brilliant Victories per click. And since I was one of those unfortunate individuals who decided to voice concern against the Shogun, I'm relegated to only be able to get Brilliant Victory as a %15-25% drop rate from the Infantry Charge mission, which requires Heroic Victories, which are equally scare. All this is a very long way of saying, that never before have I found EE to be tedious or boring, until today. Perhaps to someone like Tadaka or Shinji who are able to spend many hours playing EE, this super-rare mission requiring another rare mission drop might be interesting. However, even though my character is level 113, I still consider myself a casual player of EE. As such, I feel that this whole Battle at Mountani Watch Keep has been targeted "beyond my ability" in regards to being able to accomplish the missions.
Also, the other mission have given out crap rewards in relations to the output that they've required. Each click requires between 16-20 fate, and 1-3 of various military followers, and as a mastery reward all you merely get is a heroic opportunity.
I hope you've not succumbed to the phenomenon of catering to your outlying clients in exclusion to the enjoyment of your larger player base. Only you have access to the backend analytic numbers to accurately make that determination. All I can say is that MWK is no longer enjoyable for me, someone who considers myself a "high end casual" player of EE.
*EDIT*
Really? An Akodo Bushi Ally.... for the cost of 10 heroic opportunities and 23 heavy infantry.... what a freakin' waste of time.

*nods* I've managed to get 2 of the Heroic Opportunity's to Jade and the other to Gold so far, but I'm certainly not as casual as Moyotoshi-san (I pretty much live and breathe EE for some reason). So if I'm only at that point even after the new missions, I can definitely see a increase in their drop being a good thing.
That said, I haven't even seen this heavy cavalry mission believe it or not. Perhaps I do not have one and thus cannot see it, I haven't checked. I don't really have any interest in finding out either. It's like my choice not to get the next level of mastery in turning in the lost mempo's; I really don't want to sit around hoping for drops when I could be doing something else.
As far as the drops I'm not 100% sure; I do agree a heroic opportunity feels like too little, maybe if you got 3 of them or something. Otherwise I don't know what to think really; I don't really know the right balance of items and such, which is why I'm glad in a way I'm not trying to do so~

OK, So it's time for another crazy player to share thoughts... I was fortunate enough to be online when Battle started. I rushed there instantly to join fight. It's been 39hours with just two short sleep breaks ( ^_^ working on PhD is awesome if you wanna play EE). So what can I say? Generally I love it. It's pretty much what I'd expect. So far I've mastered all actions besides Command the Army, since Kaneka and I are not buddies anymore I have yet to start Cavalry Charge (more on that later). I also managed to get Outflank and Battle to second levels, soon I'll have archers to second level too. I think this Fight Yobanjin General mission is great, you need to gather army to fight, to get heroic opportunities, to get to fight big guy. So before I share some criticism I wanna say clearly I love Jay's work, EE, and Battle of Moutain Watch Keep. It's great but there may be just some flaws. * Fight Yobanjin General - requires 30 Brilliant victories. Seems much, but their droprate is decent, and well I REALLY hope mastery drop will be something beyond awesome like soul item or taisa position ^_^. After all effort to get Enlightened or Kenku technique ist nothing compared to this ~1,5 month effort (gathering 200+ troops of every type (except elite archers, fighting to get HO, fighting to get BV). * ... but it's really horrible drag to get heroic opportunities. This last 40 hours of gameplay got me only ~20, and that got me 14 Brilliant victories. I think it's way too low droprate. And troops will eventually run out, frustration will rise. If crazy guys like me and Tadaka have that much of trouble with this then I guess it must look pretty impossible for casual players. I dunno if that's intentional. * No heroic opportunity on second level mastery is VERY disappointing. It takes 6 hours to get from 1st to 2nd mastery in Battle the Yobanjin, so when all I got was token... you can imagine how I felt. * Why don't Skirmish and Wrath of Osano-Wo drop Heroic Opportunity randomly too? OK I counted mastery levels and fate. So far I've done actions worth 2258 fate (whoa, but it makes sense, 37 hours minus 2x level up drops to 30 hours, or was it 3 level ups...). And that crazyness got me only to 40% of Fight general action. Troop cost can be even scarier if casual or even regular players didn't have that many stored. PS1. Oh and on Cavalry Charge - it seems OK to me, now after learning that it's 33% thing. But yeah there could be more ways to get that - I'm generally not too crazy about mastery drops from other missions. At least Cavalry Screen and Outflanking could drop them as mastery. PS2. I think it would be much better if most jobs wouldn't disappear when you don't have required item. After all it's not hidden dojo or invisible spirit.

Am enjoying the new update so thank you. I'll say that more drops would aid things but if it is explained "this should take a week minimum to master everything!" then i will understand
