He held up a hand and shook his head.
Kakita-san your gift is far too personal. I cannot accept something so meaningful. My gift was not nearly as worthy as this. I cannot accept such a deep and thoughtful gift such as this after having given you something so simple as a piece of functional art. After all if Akodo learned anything from Lady Doji, it was when to accept a gift and when to know when the gift was just too much for the occasion that he could not accept, because it was too personal.

I just say that , like the wakizashi someday your pairs will surely present you with; it’s a pearl of sincerity that fits your name. Please take it, I meant not cross the lines of courtesy with my gift; I will be very sad if this fur and buckle are not of your liking or worth of your stature. She offered for the third time, hoping for the first time he wasn't really thinking it too personal, because it wasn't, nor her intention was to be personal. Was him too sincere this way? Mitsouko wondered. But finally, with his acceptance or refusal, they could do what they were meant to, discuss the possibility of truce, this evening.

He accepted the gift from her with a genuine smile.
Then I accept Kakita-san, in hopes that some day soon I will be worthy of your admiration. Hopefully this will begin with the peace we are about to sign between our clans.
He turned back to Fitsu. So the terms are that we both refrain from attacking the other or the imperials. This extends only to those forces who fight directly under our clan's banners, so that excludes the forces of the Emerald Champion and those in the Imperial Legion. Does that sound accurate to you?

Yukihime remains silently most of the time, as before her voice doesn't disturb any other conversation. She remains sitted in seiza, impecable stance. She seems to be quite serene, and none of the gifts exchanged, nor the words spoken, manage to change her expression.
Yukihime listens to Kitsu daimyo words and suddenly one more issue is presented to her. Our common foe behind the wall... the Asahina seem to be the only shugenja family not commited to research the plague, Asahina Timaru, the previous daimyo, was the only one to extensively do so. She had a few reasons in mind for this to be happening, but couldn't tell before a visit to Shinden Asahina. Funny to think this was her new home now, and she had been there only three brief times.
"Peace is something delicate, hard to keep even within one's self. I understand how harder it can be amoung a vast Empire. Kitsu-sama is right, effort will be needed not only to bring peace, but also to sustain it. After a war like this, some wounds and scars goes beyond flesh, putting several souls to suffering" - Clearly Yukihime's concerns involve more than one brief existance at ningen-do.
"Yes, I also hope all the clans could soon act in harmony, pursuing the better of the Empire, the true better." - her words sounded idealistic. She then noticed all the bushis around, she could barely imagine how they feel about all they had done - "Fighting beside our kin, must be better than against them" - in other hand, she also could not realise the bright side of having that kind of brotherhood that only war can cast upon warriors who fight and survive together.
With a brief bow to the Kitsu daimyo Yukihime became silent again, the kind of peace she looks for can not be described with words, and it's more than the simple opposition to war. But once more she indirectly stared mostly of the present samurai, optimistic. As much as they could, in their own way, their effort show they were all being great. And for that, there are no matching words.

Fitsu nodded. These seem like good terms to me, terms that we can keep to without failing our duties to our Empire. May I suggest that the exact wording should probably be discussed with those more accustomed to the language of court than we who serve more often on the battlefield? The Crane Regent shifted his gaze between the Ikoma and Doji daimyo.

briefly recognizing a possible error in judgement, Daisuke moves to the Lion and apologizes for the interruption and whispers so that only Tomatsu can hear:
"Honored Champion-sama, I only wish to point out that this treaty could easily be made useless by either Imperial Inheritor by declaring that either clan send a certain portion of their armies to join the imperial legion. Also individual samurai and families within either clan could cheat this treaty at any time by joining the Imperial Legions. I am sure that such a wise courtier as yourself might have noticed such a flaw in terms, I only wish to point this out for you Akodo-sama as I felt it was my duty to do so. I trust in your decision as it is your duty as our champion to make one."

By the last words that Daidoji Fitsu uttered, Naetaru bowed in reverence to his Crane champion. "Hai my lord" he quickly motioned over to a handful of servants. Putting leg behind foot he elevated himself from the place he was sitting, offered a fine bow to Akodo Tomatsu and said,"If you permit me samas" quickly shifting over to Ikoma Buretto"Ikoma Buretto-sama, it will be an honor". Over the left space, by the dais, there was a place reserved for the scribes. It was a silent corner where one could focus his mind and write over in peace. The servants put a pair of sumi-e sets, among with the daimyo's personal pillows. The utensils where sitting opposite to each other. From there Naetaru and Buretto could mediate over the wording of the treaties, with the care to avoid possible openings and misunderstandings.(OOC: Jin indeed! If this keeps up, we'll be "emeralding" this action like in the clicking game. Buretto! Let's play )

Drawn away from his private musings about the Kakita daimyo the Ikoma courtier sits up straighter as conversation turns towards his duties. He nods towards Fitsu and then with a bow towards Naetaru he gives a subtle motion with his fan, allowing the other man the opportunity to have the first seating at his leisure. As he made his own way over he gave a look back towards the champion, serene in expression but his eyes held an uncertainty within them. The battle had been fought and won by the blood of his cousins, yet here he was to be the one to decide what their sacrifices were worth? He internally hoped his ancestors would guide his hand.

Moments were passing and both daimyos were discussing the best possible solution regarding the wording of the treaty. Both sides would propose and then proceed into altering, counter-proposing or even correcting. In Naetaru's eyes Buretto was a helpful man, willing to provide the best solution in this. He seemed pragmatic and not reluctant at all, correcting the wording in almost every phrase. The man was meticulous and was proving that he wished the best for his Clan's interest. However, he was polite, astute, carrying a noble air around him, a thing that Naetaru thought that was expected of a man of his rank. They were in the middle of the treaty and they were going non-stop for about 45 minutes...
"...of goodwill that no Crane or Lion daimyo of rank and status would wish to exploit, via monetary or militaristic enterprises concerning both parties..."
Naetaru felt his forehead getting warm, the damn treaty had such an intricate pattern of wording...
"Ikoma Buretto-sama, I propose that we settle our brushes down for 5 minutes, hai?" making a motion over to a servant bringing over two bowls barely filled with cold mineral water and a pair of woolen towels. Naetaru reached for one towel, soaked it in the water and rinsed off his face, under his eyes and on the forehead.
"I must commend you on your talent sama! It is certainly expected of the Ikoma daimyo to be a master in scribing down the correct set of words" he said in all sincerity, offering a moment of pragmatic flattery.
"That being said you must also have a "knack" for poetry, aye?" he smiled wishing to lighten the atmosphere.

Hinto remained quiet, in his position as Naetaru's yojimbo. It seemed that he had missed a step with etiquette when he presented his gift. This didn't surprise him, and rather than let it depress him, he wrote it off as a learning experience. He had been a clumsy fool the first time he had picked up a yari as well, and yet the old adage of "practice makes perfect" proved to be true.
And without practice, how could he hope to ever understand the complexities of court? Still, he hoped that Naetaru would explain his misstep to him later, and that he hadn't offended Ikoma-san overly.
So much to learn.... it was like being taught to dance. While blindfolded. With your legs tied together.

Over the course of the treaty creation, the Ikoma daimyo could be heard making various corrections and demands. Even his initial opening bid included degrees of respect for the fallen in the forms of sake from the Crane to the families of the bereaved while the Lion could offer flowers and origami cranes to those of the rival army. That there should be a better facilitation of trade between the clans by increasing traffic among Three-Sides River, perhaps by building new bridges (with the costs of building the bridges fairly split between who owned how much of the river's sides). As he toiled over the wording, he watched this man, gauging his word choice and enthusiasm, sizing up Naetaru with each sentence and structured passage. One crucial element remained, in the eyes of the Lion, the Imperial Armies were not representative of the clans in of themselves. This was a treaty between the Lion and the Crane, and unless the Crane within the Imperial Armies would otherwise identify themselves towards any Lion fighting, well, the Lion could not be held responsible for fighting them, now could they? Likewise, if the Crane are seen aiding the Imperial forces against the Lion, now that would have to be seen as going against the terms of this treaty, would it not? During the pause, the Ikoma shifted his girth and nodded to the Doji. "Ha ha. Knack? No my lord, my skills with the written and spoken word come from my prestigious sensei and the methods our founder laid out. We are the emotions of our clan, after all. It is by our words that the Lion are allowed live large." He regarded the Doji for a moment. "Perhaps when this is done I shall have the opportunity to tell you the tale of Matsu Seijuro."

Naetaru was listening to Buretto's words retaining his smile. "Hai, the tale of Matsu Seijuro, the Ferocious Lion who studied among Kyuden Kakita's sensei. Myself, I regard his tale as an epitome to what the Lion hold dear and to what the Crane respect."
He looked over to the set of the brushes.
"Surely, I can afford some good time into hearing his story told from an Ikoma. Perhaps Ikoma Buretto-sama, you could even offer the Crane the grace of your company once, in Kyuden Doji. Lord Tomatsu-sama is an esteemed guest and thus I would be more than honored to invite you over as well. The Ikoma daimyo can offer every court the most fine historical references for everyone of us to remember."
He smiled sincerely. The Ikoma was a stern man and quite serious as it seemed, a thing that Naetaru liked.

((OOC: Guys, given the recent updates, I propose we wrap this up? What do you say? I am posting the treaty as it came out with the current events, leaving some spots intentionally vague just as to conform to the clicking game's "reality". I have already sent Ikoma Buretto a PM and should he wish to correct anything he can do it with not problem.))
A fair deal of time had passed and both Naetaru and Buretto worded the treaty in fairness. As Naetaru rose idly, he turned over facing both champions.
"Esteemed champions of the Clans of the Crane and the Lion, under the glorious gaze of Lady Sun and Lord Moon, the humble children of Akodo-kami and Doji-kami have reached a situational agreement regarding the ongoing struggle between the aforementioned Clans on the age of Hantei Naseru and Toturi Kaneka, children to the past Emperor Toturi the First."
He looked over the text and read it in reverence with certainty in his voice...the treaty was well written and in his heart Naetaru felt quite good. Both he and Buretto have invested their "talent" in it, certain to reach an agreement between the best interest of their Clans. The most interesting part however was the one that said...
"Regarding a clansman affiliation and standing by the side of the Emperor, no Crane or Lion samurai is to cease combat as he stands under the Imperial Legion's command, thus magistrates and officials under the Emerald Champion's command as well as ones displaying the garb of the every Imperial family are not to be limited by the aforementioned treaty for their jurisdiction lies with the dictum of the Hantei"
He folded the scroll. Its contents read and apparent. As etiquette demanded, he shared the dais for the announcement with the Ikoma daimyo.
He closed his eyes and prayed that everything would go as smoothly as intended...

OCC: we can extend these conversations to the garden after the signature, that is a most informal place. Here seems everyone wishes to not interrrupt the big bosses and such... For the ones wishing these conversations, of course, we can open a new thread ("Observing the Sunrise" is a good inspiring activity for to allows us an excuse to do so), or wait the signature moment to end, to have a free conversation I am looking forward to talk with Buretto and others Lions!
