Kaito hasn't reacted to the gift giving. This kind of ceremony is not for his taste, and he thinks the exchange of such things between the leaders can be necessary, but between lower ranking diplomats or warriors it's not.
Hearing the simple outcome of the treaty brings a quickly grim on his face that appears and disappears at once. The points clearly don't make him satisfied. His sensei taught him etiquette and good manner before anything else - even swordplay - but there are times, when listening in quiet because of status difference is unaccaptable.
He bows to the participants and as a shade he goes near to the Champion. Then he sits down on his right, but behind his shoulder. Kaito whispers a few words to Tomatsu sama. The bushi stays there for a moment waiting for the response of his Champion.
(OOC: the opinion of Kaito is sent in PM :-))

The hours, perhaps, take their toll upon the Ikoma daimyo. Words within words play across the page under the steady pressure from the Doji. An unwavering and total attachment to the idea that the Crane can continue to fight as long as they do so under the Imperial banner and under the command of the Emerald Champion, yet the Lion are to stand aside and let them simply pass? He does not accept these terms. He suggests, "Honorable Crane-sama, while a treaty of peace is of the utmost of importance, at present we cannot allow these terms that would make a mockery of the Lion armies stand. Maybe retirement for both sides before we word a completed conclusion? My Champion has so many matters to attend, I would not wish to keep him present to simply watch brushstrokes go back and forth." Buretto sits upright, stern expression upon his features. "I insist upon a recess to collect ourselves and look upon this matter in a new light." He rests his fan across his lap and makes a sort of brushing of crumbs upon his haori gesture. One of his servants leaving the room coincidentally at the same time as the motions.

Naetaru turned over to the Ikoma lord as standing and said the following:
"Ikoma-sama, the need of the Crane samurais in the Imperial Legion to identify themselves before carrying on any more of meaningless warfare has been sated. A fact that you've proposed by the signing of this treaty. The Crane side however will offer an extending hand of courtesy as proper. We shall recess for the day in order to be allowed to think this through"
Turning over to Tomatsu and Fitsu
"My lords, with your permission..."
As Ikoma Buretto was about to leave, Naetaru offered the last word to both the champions to decide, given that was the proper thing to do.

Occ: writing from phone, so it's a short and unedited post.
Mitsouko arched an eyebrow listening those words. Things are becoming unexpectly complicated. Crane had agreed with Tomatsu's proposal the way he expressed it. Now, Lion steps back in their Champion's words? Anyway, why had Tomatsu proposed this if it wasn't Lion's will? Silently she waited both Champion's (because calling Fitsu Regent was just a tradition anyway) words.

(OOC: Given Tomatsu's real life illness, and the seeming lack of interest in how this carried out past the gift giving (my own humble observation) I have to wonder how long people will want to see this thread continued, or if it should be axed by now?)

He stood and bowed to all those gathered.
Perhaps it is best if we adjourn for the day, so that I may talk to my chosen representatives and you may talk to yours. We have had a pleasant day and I would hate for it to be ruined with unpleasant negotiations. What do you say Fitsu-san?

Fitsu stood and returned the bow, A prudent course of action, and one I readily agree to. There is much to be considered. Whatever comes next, we have proven that there is still hope of a unified Rokugan.

Later in the Ikoma Daimyo's chambers...
The massive figure of the daimyo sat attended by his aides before a low table, a parchment presented before him. Upon it were the words that had been written today a perfect copy of the proposed treaty of peace with the Crane. He ran his fingers through the well-trimmed bit of beard at his chin as he considered each passage with greater scrutiny, free from the pressure of the watchful eyes of his peers among the Crane. He ran a finger along a line underlining the intent of the treaty that the Crane wanted. Lion to set their weapons aside, not just against the Crane, but their allies. Which included the Imperial Legion at present. He tapped a few times upon some of the kanji painted by Naetaru's flowing hand, some with double meaning, he was sure of it. He then exhaled and leaned back, murmuring softly, "How can it be made clear to them? We will not stand down from our promise to Toturi to hold the throne at Toshi Ranbo, yet we wish to end conflict with them alone? We need to focus our efforts elsewhere and they do not give us the ability to do so." One of his attendants brought forth a message and he looked upon the seal. Shiro sano Ken Hayai. The Caste of the Swift Sword. Buretto opened the letter and read the words, forehead creasing in annoyance. "So, the Dragon have arrived. Send word of this to Akodo Tomatsu-sama immediately if he does not already know. Our champion is better served upon the snowy fields of his home than here in these courts." His attendant bowed and headed out rapidly. A second soon arrived and bore a letter with no such designation. The grand Ikoma opened it with a raised brow. His expression soon darkened and he slammed a fist into the table before him. Skirmishes outside Kyuden Otomo? Were there some so concerned with the glory of potentially capturing the Hantei that they would forget the efforts of the dignitaries here, seeking a fair and just end to the violence? No. Of course not. Buretto set the note aside and shook his head, looking glum as he remarked aloud, "It seems the fortunes themselves have conspired to move against the Lion." He waved an aide over. "Send word to Naetaru-san, that this treaty can not be concluded at present and we shall have to reconvene at Winter Court to consider the nuances." unsaid was that the Lion would first need investigate who was behind the skirmishes and see to it that they be dealt with as appropriate.
