Here's my (rather predjudiced) suggestion that might fix this. There could be multiple "Thunder" Actions, spellcraft included, but instead of counting the top 10, you count the top 1. This seems to be much more in flavor, since the thunders are all representative of different clans and different styles of success. So right now we have Kenjutsu and Spellcraft, so now throw in...Lore, Battle, Courage, any number of things, really... This actually was my original plan, to have 7 contests, one for Crab Thunder, one for Crane Thunder, and yes, one for Unicorn Thunder, each using the skill appropriate to that clan. I did think that would be very cool, but I ended up not doing that because I thought it would unfairly exclude the Mantis Clan and non-Great Clan players. I figured all bushi should be at least reasonable at Kenjutsu, and all shugenja should be good at Spellcraft. We haven't had any Kenjutsu contests yet; admittedly, Spellcraft has been a bit overused (but it seems the most appropriate skill for shugenja). I've been reading the discussion here with interest. Not quite sure what I will do yet - if anything. Edit: Something that has not been mentioned is that the Spider have had a substantial "time advantage" in that their actions have been "live" for three weeks, while the defenders' actions have been "live" for one day. Not sure how heavily that will weigh into things, but IMHO this has been a large factor in previous battles.

how about a spider action that takes both akuma and kyoso favors. even if it doesn't count towards the "battle total" but just gives us a way to replenish.
I know it would give the kyoso people something to do with AKuma favors we can't normally spend.

The only thing joji, is that some of us can't click akuma You better have tons of Spellcraft because the spellcraft crowd is in!

That's pretty much what I expected it to look like.... Not much left to do but keep on plugging on.
Currently,
Good Guys = 10767 Spellcraft Bad Guys = 2981 spellcraft.
7786 difference.
EDITED

In regards to the idea of Spider sacrifices, I'm fairly sure that my fellow would have sacrificed himself to fuel the ritual(or whatever) if he thought it might tip the balance in our favor

Yeah. Spellcraft is a pretty brutal challenge. Sprinkles and I were the only spider ever up there in spellcraft on the challenge, and he's an Akuma supporter.

It's the usual RPG mistake... 10 skills for weapons and 1 skill for the whole medical body of knowledge and 1 skill to control the forces of the universe...
Classic RPG.

Is that all the Tamori are teaching? We teach all that to the 5 year olds to ensure they qualify for the hard stuff. *grin*

Wow man, I did not expect that "borrowed time" would outlast the end of FBML by that long... nor that the last ditch actions would be so AWESOME!! Makes me wish it were possible for a retired hero to come out of his monastery one last time and go save the empire (i think there have been historical precedents...). Built up this Kenjutsu skill for ages above 1000 only to quit just before a contest came up for it
Thanks for everything anyway.
A humble monk who should change his name...

I've brought this up, and I understand that we have had a time advantage. I've also kept track of how many of what items I had when this started, and what I have now as best I can. And as best as I can figure, the top 10 of the spellcraft competition is nullifying 3 weeks of work in single clicks. It is the basis of the problem I have with the competition. I don't have exact numbers, but I have spent ~800 Goblins So..... ball park 400 clicks or so. ~600 Oni I have 65 left, so..... ballpark 525 or so clicks. ~375 Blood Rite ~275 Undead Legion 52 clicks on Fury of the Lost That right about 1625 clicks (give or take some) that I have spent the past 3 weeks, busting tail to do. I'm not an ally of Akuma, so I can't even spend those favors. I have planned around being there. I haven't left save for a day or so between Round 1 and Round 2, and to farm up the peasant hostage's I needed for Kyoso. It's fair to say that I've spent 95%+ of my time for the last 3 weeks at Fortress of the Forgotten. All of my clicks. All my time, losing at most 120-150 fate per day, because even bad guys have to sleep at night. My fate never hits cap otherwise. And then, The Spellcraft action comes in, and with one click, and 40 fate, my roughly 28,000 fate spent (ballpark again, 30240 theoretical max, - sleep + levels) is nullified by 40 fate, on a stat competition that we can't even hold a candle to. I understand that its rushed to get this to a conclusion, but with the iris festival, and the spellcaft comp raging in the north, I honestly feel that in the south, it's just unbalacing what was a relatively balanced encounter. EDIT: If I'm wrong, and the spellcraft competition + Honor sacrifices don't push the empire ahead of us, I will be the first one to admit it. But right now, with the data I have, it looks incredibly rough. Admittedly, my data is incomplete, but I'm trying to extrapolate from it as best as possible.

Well... it's the day of thunder that kinda kills the idea that the Bad guys will win...
That said, I think you just had to call it the day of thunder to bring ppl in to make sure the Empire won... The spellcraft skill kinda made this ending, both here and with Toturi, Rokugan: When spells are stronger than steel.
Every Shugenja has spellcraft and some non-shugenja schools too but the Bushi schools are much more diverse. That diversity is kicking those on the "less shugenja" side in the nuts.
